Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office
The Department of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office (RCO or DAF RCO) is an office in the United States Department of the Air Force tasked with expediting the development of select technological systems. The RCO was activated by the United States Secretary of the Air Force, secretary of the Air Force on April 28, 2003, and is currently overseeing the development of the U.S. Air Force's Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider in partnership with Northrop Grumman, and the U.S. Space Force's Boeing X-37#X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle, X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle in partnership with NASA. Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider
The Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider is an American strategic bomber in development for the United States Air Force (USAF) by Northrop Grumman. Part of the Long Range Strike Bomber (LRS-B) program, it is to be a stealth aircraft, stealth intercontinental strategic bomber that can deliver Conventional weapon, conventional and thermonuclear weapons. Named "Raider" in honor of the Doolittle Raiders of World War II, the B-21 is meant to replace the Rockwell B-1 Lancer and Northrop B-2 Spirit by 2040, and possibly the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress after that. The Air Force began planning for the B-21 in 2011 and awarded the major development contract in 2015, aiming to have it in service "in the mid-2020s". Boeing X-37
The Boeing X-37, also known as the Orbital Test Vehicle (OTV), is a reusable robotic spacecraft. It is boosted into space by a launch vehicle, re-enters Earth's atmosphere, and lands as a spaceplane. The X-37 is operated by the Department of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office, in collaboration with the United States Space Force, for orbital Spaceflight#Launch, spaceflight missions intended to demonstrate reusable launch system, reusable space technologies. It is a 120-percent-scaled derivative of the earlier Boeing X-40. The X-37 began as a NASA project in 1999, before being transferred to the United States Department of Defense in 2004.
