Aidar Abzhakhanov
Aidar Abzhakhanov (; born in Alma-Ata, now Almaty) is the conductor of the Astana Opera. Biography Abzhakhanov began his musical studies at the age of seven. When he was thirteen, he attended the Almaty School for Talented Children where he continued his studies/piano. After graduation from the Almaty School, he attended Almaty State Conservatory where he completed his studies in conducting. At 17 he has debuted as conductor with Kazakh State Symphonic Orchestra. He moved to the Saint Petersburg Conservatory to study conducting with Ilya Musin and graduated in 2004 in class of Alexander Titov. In 2005 Abzhakhanov participated in Bartok Festival Savaria Symphony in Szombathely, Hungary, and has been accepted to the master classes of Zoltán Peskó. Late that year he participated at master classes with Vidin Philharmonic, Vienna, Austria, with Salvador Mas Conde. Ludwig Minkus
Ludwig Minkus (), also known as Léon Fyodorovich Minkus (23 March 1826, Vienna – 7 December 1917, Vienna), was an Austrian composer of ballet music, a violinist and teacher of music. Minkus is noted for the music he composed during his career in St. Petersburg, Russia. Beginning in 1871 Minkus served in the official post of ''Composer of Ballet Music'' to the St. Petersburg Imperial Theatres, a position he held until it was abolished upon his retirement in 1886. During his long career in St. Petersburg, Minkus composed for the original works and revivals staged by the ballet masters Arthur Saint-Léon and Marius Petipa. Polovtsian Dances
The Polovtsian Dances, or Polovetsian Dances (), form an exotic scene at the end of act 2 of Alexander Borodin's opera '' Prince Igor''. The opera remained unfinished when the composer died in 1887, although he had worked on it for more than a decade. A performing version was prepared by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Alexander Glazunov in 1890. Several other versions, or "completions", of the opera have been made. The dances are performed with chorus and last between 11 and 14 minutes. They occur in act 1 or act 2, depending on which version of the opera is being used. Their music is popular and often given in concert as an orchestral showpiece, often with the choral parts omitted. The opera also has a "Polovtsian march" which opens act 3, and an overture at the start. Baron Herman Severin Løvenskiold (30 July 1815 – 5 December 1870) was a Norwegian-born Danish composer, most noted for his score for August Bournonville's 1836 version of the ballet ''La Sylphide'' for the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen. Biography Herman Severin Løvenskiold was born at Ulefoss in the municipality Nome, Norway. He was the son of Eggert Christopher Løvenskiold (1788–1861), director of the Ulefos Iron Works. In 1829, his family moved to Denmark. He was trained in music by composer Peter Casper Krossing. He also went abroad where he studied in Vienna, Leipzig and St. Petersburg. There were two versions of the ballet; the original choreographed by Filippo Taglioni in 1832, and a second version choreographed by August Bournonville in 1836.
