Ahmed Mohamed Abdallah Salem was an Egyptian 2 time Olympian as a footballer and Track & Field Champion. He competed at the 1924 Summer Olympics and the 1928 Summer Olympics. Early life Ahmed Mohamed Abdallah Salem was born on December 25, 1898, to Egyptian Father Naval Colonel Mohamed Abdallah Salem and Egyptian Mother (descending from Turkey) Adila Alhon. Ahmed was born in Damietta because his father was stationed there at the time. His father typically rotated cities repeatedly in Egypt serving for the Egyptian Navy. Ahmed was the eldest of three boys. His two younger brothers were Mahmoud Salem (Captain of Railway Soccer Club) and youngest Abdel Monaem (Captain of Ahly Soccer Club). Salem Poor (1747–1802) was an enslaved African-American man who purchased his freedom in 1769, became a soldier in 1775, and rose to fame as a war hero during the American Revolutionary War, particularly in the Battle of Bunker Hill. Early life Salem Poor was born in 1747 into slavery on a farm in Andover in the Province of Massachusetts Bay. The farm was owned by John Poor and Rebecca Poor and his son John Poor Jr. His first name may be derived from the Arabic word "salaam", meaning ''peace''. Other sources explain that his name may have been derived from his place of birth. Mohamed Sa'id Pasha ( ar, محمد سعيد باشا, tr, Mehmed Said Paşa, March 17, 1822 – January 17, 1863) was the Wāli of Egypt and Sudan from 1854 until 1863, officially owing fealty to the Ottoman Sultan but in practice exercising virtual independence. Construction of the Suez Canal began under his tenure. Biography He was the fourth son of Muhammad Ali Pasha. Sa'id was a Francophone, educated in Paris. Medalists Aquatics Diving Two divers, both men, represented Egypt in 1928. It was the nation's debut appearance in the sport. Farid Simaika competed in both the springboard and platform events, taking bronze in the former and silver in the latter. Simaika originally was announced as the winner of the platform contest, as his average score of 99.58 was the highest. However, the event officials then announced that 4 of the 5 judges had scored American Pete Desjardins higher than Simaika and therefore Desjardins was the winner under the rules in place at the time.
