Chief Justice Of The Maldives
The chief justice of the Maldives is the most influential member of the judicial branch of the Maldives. He is appointed by the president of the Maldives. He is a member of parliamentary committee and one member of the five Supreme Court justices. He overlooks on cases and handles national crises, including the 2011–12 Maldives political crisis as an example, as well as the protests in Maldives between 2015 and 2016 which left more than 1000 people injured. There have been several chief justices in the Maldives, with the Honorable Uz Abdulla Saeed being the inaugural holder under the current constitution. He was appointed as a justice of Supreme Court of the Maldives, which was brought into being by the Constitution in 2008, and assumed office as chief justice of the Maldives, pursuant to Article 285 (b) of the Constitution, on 18 September 2008. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ( dv, އިބްރާހީމް މުޙައްމަދު ޞާލިޙް; ar, إبراهيم محمد صالح; born 1 March 1962), better known as Ibu (އިބޫ), is a Maldivian politician and the president of the Maldives since 17 November 2018. Solih was first elected to the People's Majlis in 1994, aged 30, as the MP from his home atoll of Faadhippolhu. Solih played a leading role in the formation of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the Maldives Political Reform Movement from 2003 until 2008, which led to the country adopting a new modern constitution and multiparty democracy for the first time in its history. Solih was also a senior member of parliament and the Special Majlis. Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi (born 1 October 1966) is the 4th Chief Justice of the Maldives, serving from June 28, 2018 till December 8th, 2019. Early life Dr. Ahmed Abdhulla Didi was born in S. Hithadhoo, Republic of Maldives on 1 October 1966. Education & Career After completing Secondary Certificate of Al-Azhar at Cairo Preparatory and Secondary Institute, he completed his bachelor's degree in Sharia & Law at Al-Azhar University in 1993. Prior to his appointment to Supreme Court of the Maldives in 2010, he worked at Attorney General's office as Deputy Attorney General from 2008 to 2009 as well as Counsel General of the People's Majlis in 2010. He was nominated to Supreme Court by President Mohamed Nasheed and the Majlis confirmed his nomination on August 10, 2010.
