Ahmed Albasheer
Ahmed Albasheer (Arabic: أحمد البشير; born 17 October 1984) is an Iraqi comedian, journalist, and director, best known as the creator and host of the weekly political satire show '' Albasheer Show''. He was named one of the twenty most influential people in the Arab world by the Global Influence Research Centre. Early life Albasheer was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq, He lost several family members during the Iraq War, including his brother and father, and was himself kidnapped and tortured by a militia in 2005. Albasheer trained as a journalist at Nahrain University in Baghdad and went on to work for state-owned Iraqi television. Career Until 2011, Albasheer worked for eight years as a political correspondent for Iraq's state-run news channels. ''Reason'' is an American libertarian monthly magazine published by the Reason Foundation. The magazine has a circulation of around 50,000 and was named one of the 50 best magazines in 2003 and 2004 by the ''Chicago Tribune''. History ''Reason'' was founded in 1968 by Lanny Friedlander (1947–2011), a student at Boston University, as a more-or-less monthly mimeographed publication. In 1970 it was purchased by Robert W. Poole Jr., Manuel S. Klausner, and Tibor R. Machan, who set it on a more regular publishing schedule. As the monthly print magazine of "free minds and free markets", it covers politics, culture, and ideas with a mix of news, analysis, commentary, and reviews. 2019–2021 Iraqi Protests
The 2019–2021 Iraqi protests were a series of protests in Iraq consisting of Demonstration (political), demonstrations, marches, sit-ins and civil disobedience. It started on 1October 2019, a date which was set by civil activists on social media, spreading mainly over the central and Geography of Iraq#Lower Mesopotamia, southern provinces of Iraq, to protest corruption, unemployment, political sectarianism, inefficient public services and Interventionism (politics), interventionism. The protest then escalated into calls to overthrow the Iraqi government.
