Ahmad Nawab
Malay styles and titles#Datuk, Tan Sri Dato' Seri Ahmad Khan bin Nawab Khan (6 April 1932 – 24 November 2024), known professionally as Ahmad Nawab, was a Malaysian composer. He wrote over 2000 songs and worked with artists including P. Ramlee, Saloma, Uji Rashid, Sudirman (singer), Sudirman, Salamiah Hassan, Datuk Andre Goh and M. Sani. Nawab became involved in the industry in Singapore in the 1950s, 60s and then joined forces in the 1970s with Orkestra RTM in Malaysia for 17 years and received numerous awards. Among the most notable awards is the Merak Kayangan Award [Best Song], the Bintang Malam (1980). The highest appreciation given by the Malaysian music industry to the senior composer is the Seniman Negara Award of 2006, on 20 November 2006. Malay Styles And Titles
The Malay language has a complex system of Style (manner of address), styles, titles and honorifics which are used extensively in Brunei, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Singapore. Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, few provinces in the Philippines and several provinces in Indonesia regularly award honorary and life titles. What follows in this article is specific to the Malaysian system. References to Brunei and Indonesia are given when pertinent. In Malaysia, all non-hereditary titles can be granted to both men and women. Every title has a form of address which can be used by the wife of the title holder. This form is not used by the husband of a titled woman; such a woman will bear a title which is the same as a titled man. Sudirman (singer)
Dato' Sudirman bin Haji Arshad (25 May 1954 – 22 February 1992), known mononymously as Sudirman, was a Malaysian singer, songwriter and actor. His singing career kicked off after winning the Bintang RTM singing competition on 11 August, 1976. His career defining moment came after he was awarded winner of the "1989 Asia's No. 1 Performer" title during the ‘'Asian Popular Music Awards'’ competition held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 19 March, 1989. Throughout his career, he was known as the "Singing Lawyer", the "People's Singer", the "Patriotic Singer" and the "Elvis Presley and Claude François of Malaysia". Saloma
Salmah binti Ismail ( Jawi: سلمه بنت إسماعيل; 22 January 1935 – 25 April 1983), better known by her stage name Saloma, was a Singaporean-Malaysian singer, film actress, trendsetter and a fashion icon who became well known in the late 1950s. Saloma was well known for her singing ability, which was depicted as "lemak merdu", (a full, rather thick but sweet voice). She was signed with EMI music records and since then released numerous EP's such as Dendang Saloma (1957), Bunga Negara (1963) and Aslirama (1972).
