Mohamed Abdi Hashi
Mohamed Abdi Hashi (, ; died 12 July 2020) was the first Vice President of Puntland during Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed presidency from 1 August 1998 to 10 October 2004. Later was the acting President of Puntland from 10 October 2004 until 8 January 2005. Hashi was the chairman of USP during the 1990s. He hails from the Qayaad subclan of the larger clan Dhulbahante. He died COVID-19 in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi on 12 July 2020. On 15 July he was buried in Garowe. Biography Mahamed Abdi is from the Qayaad branch of the Dhulbahante clan. Jama Ali Jama (, ) is a Somali politician. He was the President of Puntland from November 14, 2001, to May 8, 2002. The period of his presidency was overshadowed by the Puntland Crisis (2001–2002), which began after former president Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed rejected Jama's election. In May 2002 he was forcible deposed by Ethiopian troops seeking to install his political rival president. Early life Jama is from the Osman Mahmoud sub-clan of the Majeerteen Darod. He was educated in Moscow and later joined the Somali National Army, rising to the rank of colonel. The Puntland Crisis (2001–2003) was an armed conflict that took place in the Puntland autonomous state of northeastern Somalia following a leadership dispute between Colonel Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed and Colonel Jama Ali Jama after the latter had been elected as the region's new president. After Puntland was established in 1998, Colonel Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed was elected the regions first president, leading a regional transitional government set for two years. In 2000, the Transitional National Government (TNG) of Somalia was formed, which Yusuf's administration opposed out of concern that a new central state would favor the south. Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed (, ‎; 15 December 1934 – 23 March 2012), was a Somali politician and former military official who served as the first President of Puntland from 1998 to 2004.
