Ahmad Bin Quasem
Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman (), also known as Mir Ahmad, is a Bangladeshi born British-trained barrister and human rights activist. He was a victim of enforced disappearance and was believed to have been abducted by security forces of the government of Bangladesh. He is the son of late Mir Quasem Ali, a prominent leader of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami party, and was a member of his father's legal defence team before his abduction. According to a whistleblower report, it was believed that Mir Ahmad was detained at a Bangladeshi secret detention center known as Aynaghar. He was released on August 06, 2024, in Dhaka. Pictures after his release showed that he had lost considerable weight. UN Working Group On Enforced Or Involuntary Disappearances
The Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances has been set up to investigate cases in which persons are detained or killed by states in secret prisons and the corpses are disposed of so that nothing can be proven to them. The UN mandate The UN Human Rights Commission created this body on February 29, 1980 by means of a resolution, which also defined the mandate. This UN mandate is limited to three years and is regularly renewed. After the UN Human Rights Commission was replaced in 2006 by the UN Human Rights Council, it is now in charge and exercising oversight. Forced Disappearance
An enforced disappearance (or forced disappearance) is the secret abduction or imprisonment of a person with the support or acquiescence of a State (polity), state followed by a refusal to acknowledge the person's fate or whereabouts with the intent of placing the victim outside the protection of the law. Often, forced disappearance implies murder whereby a victim is kidnapping, abducted, may be illegally prison, detained, and is often tortured during interrogation, ultimately killed, and the body disposed of secretly. The party committing the murder has plausible deniability as there is no evidence of the victim's death. Enforced disappearance was first recognized as a human rights issue in the 1970s as a result of Detenidos Desaparecidos, its use by military dictatorships in Latin America during the Dirty War.
