Agustín Balbuena
Agustín Alberto Balbuena (1 September 1945 – 9 March 2021) was an Argentine football striker who won with Club Atlético Independiente four Copa Libertadores and one Copa Intercontinental. Career Balbuena began his professional playing career in 1964 with home town club Colón de Santa Fe, after a spell with Racing Club. He played for Rosario Central where he was a losing finalist in the 1970 Nacional. In 1971 Balbuena joined Club Atlético Independiente where he became an important player during the most successful period in the history of the club. He appeared with the team that won the 1971 Metropolitano to qualify for the Copa Libertadores. Independiente won Copa Libertadores on four consecutive occasions: 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975. He scored the winning goal in the Copa Intercontinental in 1973 against Juventus. The Copa Interamericana ( en, Interamerican Cup) was an annual club football competition contested between a representative from North America (CONCACAF) and South America ( CONMEBOL). Established in 1969, it was discontinued in 1998 after CONCACAF clubs, particularly those from Mexico, began participating in CONMEBOL competitions. The competition was intended to be contested between the winners of the North American CONCACAF Champions Cup and the South American Copa Libertadores tournaments, although the participants varied at times. 1973 Intercontinental Cup
The 1973 Intercontinental Cup was an association football match played on 28 November 1973 between Juventus, runners-up of the 1972–73 European Cup, and Independiente, winners of the 1973 Copa Libertadores. The match was played at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. It was Juventus' first appearance into the competition and Independiente's fourth appearance after the defeats against Internazionale in 1964 and 1965 and against Ajax in 1972. Despite initially refusing to participate in the competition, Juventus replaced Ajax as representative UEFA team in the competition after Ajax as the European champions declined to contest a possible meeting in South America officially for financial reasons. Primera B Metropolitana is one of two professional leagues that form the third level of the Argentine football league system. The division is made up of 17 clubs mainly from the city of Buenos Aires and its metropolitan area, Greater Buenos Aires.
