Agnieszka Stanuch
Agnieszka Stanuch (born 21 November 1979 in Lubań) is a Polish Canoe slalom, slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1994 to 2008. She competed in two Summer Olympics and earned her best finish of fifth in the Canoeing at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's slalom K-1, K1 event in Beijing in 2008 Summer Olympics, 2008. She is daughter of former Polish slalom canoeist Jerzy Stanuch. Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a Spraydeck, decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on Whitewater, river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. The other Olympic canoeing discipline is canoe racing, canoe sprint. Wildwater canoeing is a non-Olympic paddlesport. Jerzy Zbigniew Stanuch (born 17 May 1953, in Nowy Sącz) is a former Polish slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1971 to 1978. He won three medals in the K1 team event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with two silvers (1973, 1975) and a bronze (1977). He finished 14th in the K1 event at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Stanuch's daughter Agnieszka Agnieszka is the Polish equivalent of the female given name Agnes. The European Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships is an annual international canoeing and kayaking event organized by the European Canoe Association (ECA). Canoeing At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's Slalom K-1
The women's K-1 slalom competition in canoeing at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on August 13 and August 15, 2008 at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Beijing. The K-1 (kayak single) event is raced by one-person kayaks through a Whitewater racing, whitewater course. The final was rescheduled to the 15th due to persistent lightning at the Park. There were three rounds of competitions: the heats, the semifinal, and the final. In the heats, each canoeist completed two runs of the course. The time, in seconds, of each run was added to the number of penalty points assessed. Touching any of the 21 slalom gates resulted in a 2-second penalty for each gate touched, while skipping any of the gates resulted in a 50-second penalty.
