Agnese Schebest
Agnese Schebest, ''née'' ''Agnese Šebesta'', also ''Agnese Schebesta'' (10 February 1813 – 22 December 1869) was an Austrian operatic mezzo-soprano. She lived as a singing teacher in Munich and Stuttgart. Life and career Schebest was born in Vienna, the daughter of a Czech-born chief of the Austrian army. She moved to Prague as a child with her parents due to a professional change in her father's assignment. The latter died as a result of an injury while blasting the fortifications of Alessandria as early as 1816. She lived with her mother in Terezin, where she attracted attention as a child at church concerts. At the age of eleven she got singing lessons free of charge with Kammersänger Johann Aloys Miksch and acting lessons with the actress Friederike Vohs in Dresden. At the Dresden court opera she sang early as choirist and comprimaria. Schebest made her opera debut in 1830 as Benjamin in Méhul's ''Joseph'' at the Dresden court stage. David Friedrich Strauss (german: link=no, Strauß ; 27 January 1808 – 8 February 1874) was a German liberal Protestant theologian and writer, who influenced Christian Europe with his portrayal of the "historical Jesus", whose divine nature he denied. Johann Gottfried Bergmann (10 May 1795 – 4 July 1831) was a royal Saxon court actor and operatic tenor. Life Born in Reichenbach near Königsbrück as a child of poor parents and unable to practise a trade due to an accident in his childhood, Bergmann had to contribute to his own livelihood early on. However, he attended school and was promoted by his father, who was a violinist, in the field of music. After hearing a polyphonic choir at a fair for the first time, he prepared himself as well as possible privately to be accepted into the Dresden Singchor. His father, however, believed that he could only finance an education at a teacher's seminar, but Bergmann was able to take an entrance examination at the Kreuzschule with the intercession of the local priest, with whom he had had Latin lessons. Heinrich Ferdinand Mannstein, real name Heinrich Ferdinand Steinmann, (16 September 1806 – 3 August 1872) was a German singing teacher, writer and music critic. Life Born in Berggießhübel, Mannstein attended the Dresden Kreuzschule and the St. Thomas School, Leipzig as Gymnasiast. At the insistence of his father, he devoted himself to studying theology at the Leipzig University, while also studying music. After some arguments at home, but also due to the general circumstances of his time, he finally joined the singing choir of the court theatre in Dresden in 1829. ''Médée'' is a French language opéra-comique by Luigi Cherubini. The libretto by François-Benoît Hoffman (Nicolas Étienne Framéry) was based on Euripides' tragedy of Medea and Pierre Corneille's play '' Médée''. It is set in the ancient city of Corinth.
