Guilsborough
Guilsborough is a village and civil parish in West Northamptonshire in England. At the time of the 2001 census, the parish's population was 882 people, reducing to 692 at the 2011 Census. It is at the centre of an area of rural villages between the towns of Northampton, Daventry, Rugby and Market Harborough. There is a secondary school, primary school, fire station, pub, a new village shop including a Post Office (formerly the doctor's surgery) and a new doctor's surgery with pharmacy and a Hairdressers. History The villages name means 'Gyldi's fortification'. The hundred is named after Guilsborough, but the site of the meeting-place is unknown. Guilsborough is made up of two hamlets, now joined. Guilsborough (Guildesburgh) and Nortoft. The former referring to the Roman fort, or referencing the earlier Late Bronze Age/Iron Age Enclosure on the same site. Agnes Broun
Agnes Broun, Agnes Brown or Agnes Burnes (17 March 1732 – 14 January 1820), was the mother of Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns. Agnes's father, Gilbert (1708–1774), was the tenant of the farm of Craigenton, in Kirkoswald, South Ayrshire, Kirkoswald parish, South Ayrshire, Scotland. Life and character A bed and breakfast called the Whitestone Cottage, on the Culzean estate in Ayrshire, claims to be Agnes Broun's birthplace, however she was christened at Kirkoswald, South Ayrshire, Kirkoswald that is close to Craigenton Farm. Agnes was aged just 10 when her mother, Agnes Rainie (1708–1742), died. As the oldest of six siblings Agnes spent the next two years looking after the family, but in 1744, after her father had found a new wife, she was sent to live in Maybole with Jean Rainie, her maternal grandmother. Walnut Grove, California
Walnut Grove is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sacramento County, California, United States. Founded in 1851 by Chinese immigrants, it served as an important port between Sacramento and San Francisco. It is part of the Sacramento metropolitan area, Sacramento-Arden-Arcade-Roseville Statistical Area. The population was 1,452 at the 2020 census, down from 1,542 at the 2010 census. As one of the only remaining Chinese-American built cities in the United States, Walnut Grove is considered a Historic district of Rome, historical district and National Historic Landmark. About 40 of the original buildings still stand. Later, Japanese immigrants settled here to work on asparagus farms. The first known Japanese owned business was a noodle shop, which opened in 1896. Agnes Brown (suffragist)
Agnes Henderson Brown also known as Nannie Brown (12 April 1866 – 1 December 1943) was a Scottish suffragist and writer. She was one of the "Brown Women" who walked from Edinburgh to London in 1912. An early woman cyclist in Scotland. She repeated the walk but this time from John O Groats. She was a founding member of the Scottish Women's Rural Institute. Life Brown was born in Edinburgh in 1866 to William ("Durie") Brown (1858–1921) and his wife Jessie Wishart Henderson. The family lived at 125 Princes Street facing Edinburgh Castle. Her father was an activist for women's rights. His opposition to taxes that differentiated between genders caused him to end up in Calton Gaol.
