The Agent-General for South Australia is the official representative of the South Australia, State of South Australia to the United Kingdom. The position is a quasi-diplomatic representative responsible for representing the State to the Crown and promoting South Australia's trade and economic interests in the United Kingdom and Europe. In 1858, South Australia was the first Australian colonial government to appoint an Agent-General. David Ridgway (politician)
David Wickham Ridgway (born 14 November 1960) is a South Australian politician who served as a member of the South Australian Legislative Council from 2002 to 2021, representing the Liberal Party of Australia (SA). Ridgway served as the Minister for Trade and Investment in the Marshall Ministry from 22 March 2018 to 26 July 2020, and as Minister for Tourism from March 2018 to January 2020. Background Ridgway was elected state president of the South Australian Rural Youth Movement in 1982–83. In 1984 he won a six-month youth study tour to the UK. This experience heightened his interest in politics, especially in primary industries and regional development. Ridgway began working on the family farm and at 19 he took on management of the family's horticultural business. Bill Muirhead
William Mortimer Muirhead (born 1946) is an Adelaide-born senior advertising executive and was the Agent General for South Australia in London. He took the position of Agent General 2007 at the request of Premier Mike Rann. Early life and education Muirhead's childhood was in Adelaide, South Australia. During his childhood he grew up surrounded by notable media families such as the Murdochs. Muirhead moved to London as an adolescent, under the belief that he would return to his native Australia soon. He studied at St Dunstan's College in South London. John Greeley Jenkins
John Greeley Jenkins (8 September 1851 – 22 February 1923) was an American-Australian politician. He was Premier of South Australia from 1901 to 1905. He had previously served as Minister for Education and the Northern Territory and Commissioner for Public Works under Thomas Playford II, Commissioner of Public Works under Charles Kingston and Chief Secretary under Frederick Holder. He was subsequently Agent-General for South Australia from 1905 to 1908. Background and early career Jenkins was born in Pennsylvania, the fourth son of Evan Jenkins and Mary Davis of South Wales. Sir John Alexander Cockburn (23 August 185026 November 1929) was Premier of South Australia from 27 June 1889 to 18 August 1890. Early life Cockburn was born in Corsbie, Berwickshire, Scotland, in 1850 to Thomas Cockburn, farmer, and his wife Isabella, née Wright. His father died in France in 1855, and his mother migrated to South Australia in 1867 with three of the four children. Cockburn remained in the UK and was educated at Highgate School, and King's College London, he obtained the degree of Doctor of Medicine, M.D. London, with first class honours and gold medal. Sir John Cox Bray (31 May 1842 – 13 June 1894) was a prominent South Australian politician and the first native-born Premier of South Australia (1881–1884). Early life and education John Cox Bray was born in East Adelaide, a son of Tom Cox Bray (1815–1881), shoemaker from Portsmouth, Hampshire, and Sarah Bray, née Pink, (1813–1877), from the same county.
