Beethoven's Last Night
''Beethoven's Last Night'' is a rock opera by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, released in 2000. The album tells the fictional story of Ludwig van Beethoven on the last night of his life, as the devil, Mephistopheles, comes to collect his soul. With the help of Fate and her son Twist, Beethoven unwittingly tricks the devil and is allowed to keep his soul which he had thought lost, but that the devil had no claim on. The opera features many classical crossover rock songs which are clearly based on melodies from classical music, particularly Beethoven's works. It is the first Trans-Siberian Orchestra album that does not feature Christmas themes. The original cover art was created by Edgar Jerins, and re-issued cover art was created by Greg Hildebrandt. Story Late one night in the spring of 1827 (presumably March 26, the night he died), Ludwig van Beethoven has completed his masterpiece, his tenth symphony (which, in reality, was never completed). Just as this work is finished, Fa ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

After The Fall (Keith Jarrett Album)
''After the Fall'' is a live double album by American jazz pianist Keith Jarrett. Recorded at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on November 14, 1998, it was released archivally by ECM Records 20 years later. Jarrett's trio features bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Jack DeJohnette. Background Chris Pearson of ''The Times'' stated "The title refers to Keith Jarrett’s 'fall' into a bout of chronic fatigue syndrome in autumn (or fall) 1996. As the American pianist explains in his sleeve notes, the illness kept him from playing publicly for two years. This concert, recorded near his home in New Jersey, was his first post-recovery attempt to play before an audience. It’s a caveat of sorts, as is its casual capture through the venue’s mixing console. Yet the tape and the trio sound fine." Reception Thom Jurek of AllMusic wrote: "This double disc isn't merely a compelling historical document, it is an exemplary concert full of inspired readings of classic jazz tunes rangin ... Mighty Like A Rose
''Mighty Like a Rose'' is the 13th studio album by the British rock singer and songwriter Elvis Costello, released in 1991 on compact disc as Warner Brothers 26575. The title is presumably a reference to the pop standard " Mighty Lak' a Rose", and although that song does not appear on the album, the words of its first stanza are quoted in the booklet of the 2002 reissue.Costello, Elvis. ''Mighty Like A Rose.'' Rhino Records R2 78189, 2002, liner notes. It peaked at No. 5 on the UK Albums Chart, and at No. 55 on the ''Billboard'' 200. Record label pressures, however, won the day and the release was as an Elvis Costello record. ''Mighty Like a Rose'' continues in the vein of Costello's previous album ''Spike'' from 1989, although with Mitchell Froom taking over the producer's chair from T Bone Burnett. This ...
