African Raw Material Vol. 1
''African Raw Material Vol. 1'' is the debut studio album by South African rap group Cashless Society. The album was released on Unreleased Records and was distributed by BMG Africa. The song "Hottentot Hop (Bantu 1, 2)" had a music video released in 2003, followed by "Taxi Wars" which had a music video released in 2004 as well. The song "8-3-1 (I Love You)" was then featured on the ''Yizo Yizo 3'' soundtrack. Released as an enhanced CD, the enhanced portion includes a Press Kit (Bio, Pictures and Wallpaper), and a video clip of Cashless Society performing live on YFM. The album won Best Hip-Hop Album at the South African Music Awards in 2004, with the single "Hottentot Hop (Bantu 1, 2)" winning both Best South African Rap Song and Best South African Music Video as well. Cashless Society also known as The Hard Cashless Society or THC Society are a southern African hip hop crew from Gaborone, Botswana and Johannesburg, South Africa. The group consists of Snazz D (Julian Du Plessis), Draztik (Dave Balsher), X-Amount (Kwezi Ngcakani), Black Intellect (Jerry Kai Lewis), Fat Free (Salim Mosidinyane) & DJ IQ (who left the group, when he moved back to Queens, NY), the group made later acquisitions of other like minded artists with Criminal (Alfred Chirwa), Tizeye (Tyrone Phillips) & Gemini (Thabiso Mofokeng) (the later is also a member of Groundworks) joining to form the group well known as Cashless Society. Snazz D
Julian Du Plessis (born 13 March 1977 in Cape Town), known by his stage names Snazz D or Snazz the Dictator, is a South African underground rapper and music producer. Early life Julian Du Plessis was born in Cape Town, South Africa. He grew up in Gugulethu a South African township on the Cape Flats, before moving to Mitchells Plain another township on the Flats. Inspired by the hip-hop movement and culture developing on the Cape Flats at the height of Apartheid, with groups such as Prophets of Da City and Black Noise emerging, he began rhyming as a young teenager in the early nineties under the moniker Snazzy D. ''Yizo Yizo'' is a South African television teen drama series which aired from 27 January 1999 to 1 July 2004 on SABC 1. Synopsis The series was set in a fictional school, Supatsela High, in a township of Johannesburg. In the first series, the school's dictatorial principal, Mr. Mthembu, is forced to leave after beating a pupil. South African Music Awards
The South African Music Awards (often simply the SAMAs) are the Recording Industry of South Africa's music industry awards, established in 1995. The ceremony is held annually, usually in late April or May, with the judging process starting in November of the previous year. The nominations are typically announced at the end of March. The winners receive a gold-plated statuette called a SAMA. Hechichamunorwa Mount Zion Kwenda (23 June 1976 – 4 September 2014), better known as Mizchif, was a South African based Zimbabwean rapper. He was allegedly 'the first to independently release a solo hip hop album in South Africa,' and the first person in South Africa to perform hip hop with a live band. Early Background Mizchif was born and raised in Highfield, Harare, Zimbabwe. He moved to Syracuse, New York at the age of 12 where he hooked up with a crew, Soul Pack, and began rapping. He moved to South Africa at 18, where he released his debut album ''Life from All Angles'' in 1999 on Eargasm Records. It was well received and had classics like "Place for a Wife" and "Fashionable," of which both respective music videos received constant airplay on several TV music channels across Africa. Tumi Molekane
Tumi Molekane (born 16 August 1981) is a Tanzanian-born South African rapper and poet. He was the lead vocalist of Tumi and the Volume, that was officially disbanded in 2012. In 2016, Tumi relaunched himself as Stogie T and released an eponymous album, which featured Da L.E.S, Lastee, Emtee, Nasty C, Nadia Nakai and Yanga. He has two singles from the album. The first single "Diamond Walk" features rapper Nadia Nakai in the video. His second single from the album, "By Any Means", features a hook and verses from Emtee and Yanga. Background Tumi and the Volume also comprises the members of the Mozambican band 340ml. Molekane was born in Tanzania while his South African parents lived in exile there.
