Afonso Schmidt
Affonso Schmidt (29 June 1890 – 3 April 1964) was a Brazilian journalist, short story writer, novelist, and playwright. Biography Affonso Schmidt was born on Sunday, 29 June 1890, in Cubatão. In Cubatão, he founded the newspaper ''Vésper'', and in the city of São Paulo he was part of the editorial staff of the important libertarian periodicals '' A Plebe'' and '' A Lanterna'', alongside legendary figures of the Brazilian anarchist movement such as Edgard Leuenroth and . He also held positions in the editorial staff of the newspapers ''Folha'' and ''O Estado de S. Paulo''. In the city of Rio de Janeiro, he founded the newspaper ''Voz do Povo'', which in time became the press organ of the local Workers' Federation. He was imprisoned several times for expressing what he thought. Cubatão
Cubatão is a city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, 12 kilometers away from Santos seaport, the largest in Latin America. It is part of the Metropolitan Region of Baixada Santista. The population is 131,626 (2020 est.) in an area of 142.88 km². It hosts industries, refining oil, steel mills and fertilizers. In the early 1980s, Cubatão was one of the most polluted cities in the world, nicknamed "Valley of Death", due to births of brainless children and respiratory, hepatic and blood illnesses. 1964 Brazilian Coup D'état
The 1964 Brazilian coup d'état ( pt, Golpe de estado no Brasil em 1964), colloquially known in Brazil as the Coup of 64 ('), was a series of events in Brazil from March 31 to April 1 that led to the overthrow of President João Goulart by members of the Brazilian Armed Forces, supported by the United States government. The following day, with the military already in control of the country, the speaker of the Brazilian Congress came out in support of the coup and endorsed it by declaring vacant the office of the presidency (though Goulart never officially resigned). Brazilian science fiction has been a part of Brazilian literature since the mid 19th century. The first works of Brazilian Science Fiction emerged in the decades following Brazil's independence.
