Afon Crawnon
The Afon Crawnon is a river in the Brecon Beacons National Park in the county of Powys, Wales. The headwaters rise on the hills north of Trefil and flow northeast down a valley known as Dyffryn Crawnon for 7 km to a confluence with the River Usk just west of Llangynidr. The valley is notable for being at the centre of a major green energy initiative known as The Three Green Valleys project and which involves the construction of several micro-hydro schemes. Dyffryn Crawnon is translated from Welsh to mean "Valley of the Garlic River". Brecon Beacons National Park, officially named Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (), is a National parks of the United Kingdom, national park in Wales. Trefil
Trefil is a small village in the county borough of Blaenau Gwent, south Wales. It lies at the top of the Sirhowy Valley, near to Brecon Beacons National Park. It is three miles northwest of Tredegar. With one public house, The Top House, serving homemade food and drinks to local visitors. Etymology The village name may derive from the terms 'tref' and 'mil' signifying the 'farm of the lesser celandine', a plant which might be expected to grow in the stream which flows through the place, the Nant Trefil. Geography The village is sited in the bottom of a broad valley which cuts through the moorlands between the A465 road, Heads of the Valleys Road and the Dyffryn Crawnon valley to the north. River Usk
The River Usk (; ) rises on the northern slopes of the Black Mountain (''y Mynydd Du''), Wales, in the westernmost part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Initially forming the boundary between Carmarthenshire and Powys, it flows north into Usk Reservoir, then east through Sennybridge to Brecon before turning southeast to flow by Talybont-on-Usk, Crickhowell and Abergavenny, after which it takes a more southerly course. Beyond the eponymous town of Usk, it passes the Roman legionary fortress of Caerleon to flow through the heart of the city of Newport and into the Severn Estuary at Uskmouth near the Newport Wetlands. Llangynidr
Llangynidr is a village, community and electoral ward in Powys, Wales, about west of Crickhowell and south-east of Brecon. The River Usk flows through the village as does the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. It is in the historic county of Brecknockshire. The village The village is located four miles west of Crickhowell and nine miles southeast of Brecon, beside the River Usk and the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. It is situated on the B4558 just to the south of where this road diverges from the A40 trunk road. The stone bridge across the river dates from approximately 1700 and is a Grade I listed building. Old Red Sandstone, abbreviated ORS, is an assemblage of rocks in the North Atlantic region largely of Devonian age. It extends in the east across Great Britain, Ireland and Norway, and in the west along the eastern seaboard of North America. It also extends northwards into Greenland and Svalbard. Beacons Way
The Beacons Way (Welsh: Ffordd y Bannau) is a waymarked long distance footpath in the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales. It is a linear route which runs for east to west through the National Park, and passes many of the most important landmarks and mountain peaks in the mountain range. It also includes a few of the towns in the park as well as popular attractions such as Carreg Cennen Castle near Llandeilo at the western end of the path.
