Affiliated States Championship
The Affiliated States Championship is an annual rugby league competition run by the Australian Rugby League involving the four affiliated states ( Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia) plus the Australian Federal Police and Australian Defence Force. Following the Championship, a Combined Affiliated States (CAS) representative side is selected from the teams to tour the Pacific islands. History The initial Championship had Australian Capital Territory and Newcastle in it because they were the two strongest competitions outside of the Queensland Rugby League and New South Wales Rugby League. The Championship resumed in 2003 with just the four Affiliated states. The PRLA Australian team joined the competition in 2005. Victorian Rugby League
NRL Victoria (abbreviated as NRLVic, and formerly the Victorian Rugby League) is responsible for administering the game of rugby league in the Australian state of Victoria. Victoria is an Affiliated State of the overall Australian governing body the National Rugby League. The VRL commenced in 1952 and has been running each year since. NRL Victoria solely administers the Storm Premiership in Melbourne, the Sunraysia-Riverlands Rugby League, and the Murray Cup Rugby League competitions. It also jointly administers the Limestone Coast Rugby League with NRL South Australia. Prior to 2013 NRL Victoria was known as the Victorian Rugby League before the NRL completed a full rebranding exercise and renamed all affiliate states. Newcastle Rugby League Team
The Newcastle rugby league team is a representative rugby league football team made up of players selected from the Newcastle Rugby League's first grade clubs. Also called Newcastle Firsts, the team has been assembled occasionally since rugby league's first season in Australia in 1908. History 1900s On the Australian leg of the 1907–1908 New Zealand rugby tour of Australia and Great Britain the 'professional All Blacks' played a Newcastle side at rugby union, defeating them 53-6. Sunbury United Rugby League
The Sunbury United Rugby League Club is a rugby league team based in Sunbury, Victoria, Australia. They play in the Victorian Rugby League competition. Club history The club was originally formed by Ted & Maureen Riley after they viewed a Rugby league International game between Australia and New Zealand at Olympic Park in 1991 which left them wondering if Rugby League could take off in the Victorian township of Sunbury. They then placed an advertisement in the local paper looking for other interested parties and on 17 September 1991 the first meeting of the club was held with twenty-six members. The members originally applied to the Victorian Rugby League for membership in 1991 but couldn't afford the entry fee to begin a club so had to wait until 1992 when the club became officially formed.
