Affaire Poupette
The Jaccoud Case, in French Affaire Jaccoud, also known as the Affaire Poupette, was a Swiss judicial scandal of the 1960s. Murder of Charles Zumbach On 1 May 1958, Charles Zumbach, a seventy-year-old dealer in agricultural machinery, was brutally murdered at his home in Plan-les-Ouates. When his wife came home, she heard four shots and cries for help. Shortly afterwards an unknown man shoved her towards the garden and started shooting at her. Later, she could not recall the appearance of the offender. Jürgen Thorwald
Jürgen Thorwald (born Heinz Bongartz, October 28, 1915 – April 4, 2006) was a German writer, journalist and historian known for his works describing the history of forensic medicine and of World War II. Thorwald was a native of Solingen, Rhenish Prussia, and attended the University of Cologne. He started his career in 1933 at age 18, during the Nazi era, writing for publications such as ''Die Braune Post'' ("''The Brown Mail''"), the SS journal '' Das Schwarze Korps'' ("''The Black Corps''") and the NSDAP paper '' National-Zeitung''. During the war he worked as a propaganda writer, focusing on the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine and the general German war effort. After the war he used the pseudonym ''Jürgen Thorwald'' in order to be able to work under allied occupation. In 1947 he legally adopted the new name. Wolfgang is a German male given name traditionally popular in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A Pitaval is a collection of causes célèbres. The name derived from the French advocate François Gayot de Pitaval (1673–1743), who published several volumes of ''causes célèbres et intéressantes'' between 1734 and 1743. Early works were mainly written for legal professionals but later Pitavals also became popular amongst other readers. In the 19th and early 20th century the idea of publishing criminal cases quickly spread in Europe. Pitavals became a well-known literary genre, which was often imitated.
