''Aesthethica'' is the second studio album by Brooklyn-based black metal band Liturgy. Produced by Krallice guitarist Colin Marston, the album was released on May 10, 2011 via Thrill Jockey. Spin ranked it as number 26 on Spin's 50 Best Albums of 2011, and ''Pitchfork'' placed the album at number 41 on its list of the "Top 50 albums of 2011". Critical reception Upon its release, ''Aesthethica'' received positive reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from critics, the album received an average score of 72, which indicates "generally favorable reviews", based on 13 reviews. Liturgy (band)
Liturgy is an American black metal band from Brooklyn, New York. The band have described their music as "transcendental black metal," which was especially described in a manifesto written by founding member Haela Hunt-Hendrix; in the process of transforming their style of black metal, they have experimented with other genres including progressive rock, hip hop and electronic music. In the band's early days, Hunt-Hendrix expressed her interest in the work of Swans, Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham, La Monte Young and Lightning Bolt as influences. The Ark Work
''The Ark Work'' is the third studio album by American rock band Liturgy. It was released on March 24, 2015 through Thrill Jockey record label. The first single off the album, "Quetzalcoatl" was released digitally on January 20, 2015. Background Following the release of the band's second album, '' Aesthethica'', Liturgy toured as a duo, only featuring the band leader Haela Hunt-Hendrix and guitarist Bernard Gann. During this period, Hunt-Hendrix planned the album by herself for a couple of years and expressed a desire to move away from its standard “transcendental black metal” style, to incorporate more “electronic elements.” In 2014, the former band members, bassist Tyler Dusenbury and drummer Greg Fox, rejoined the band to record the upcoming third studio album.
