Aerospace Operations Command
The Aerospace Operations Command ( pt, Comando de Operações Aeroespaciais - COMAE) is a Brazilian air and space command created in 2017 and is part of the Brazilian Air Force. Is responsible for planning, coordinating, executing and controlling the country's air and space operations. The Brazilian Navy and Brazilian Army also are part of the organization. Mission The COMAE was formed as a Brazilian Air Force command with the main mission of oversee all air and space operations in the country and includes personnel from the Brazilian Army and Brazilian Navy. Other missions include the operations of satellites in orbit for imagery intelligence, military communications, reconnaissance and earth observation roles in joint operation with the Brazilian Space Agency and the National Institute for Space Research from the Space Operations Center (COPE), and other facilities in the country, also orbital and sub-orbital launches from the Alcântara Space Center. The air traffic control centers of Brazil are known by the acronym CINDACTA, or "Centro Integrado de Defesa Aérea e Controle de Tráfego Aéreo (Integrated Air Traffic Control and Air Defense Center). The SABIA-Mar (Spanish: ), originally called SAC-E by CONAE, is a dual satellite joint Earth observation mission. The mission objective is to study the oceanic biosphere, its changes over time, and how it is affected by and reacts to human activity. It will focus on the monitoring of ocean surfaces, especially studying the ocean ecosystem, the carbon cycle, and marine habitats, as well as ocean mapping. This collaboration between the Argentine (CONAE) and the Brazilian ( AEB) space agencies was originally supposed to make two identical spacecraft with Argentina supplying the payload and Brazil the satellite bus. The satellites, SABIA-Mar A and SABIA-Mar B, were supposed to fly in 2017 and 2018, and operate until 2021. The Geostationary Defense and Strategic Communications Satellite or SGDC (in Portuguese: ''Satélite Geoestacionário de Defesa e Comunicações Estratégicas'') is a Brazilian geostationary communication satellite that was built by Thales Alenia Space in France, it was placed in the orbital position of 75 degrees west longitude and will be operated by Telebrás. Telebrás selected Viasat as a partner to help build the associated ground system. The satellite was based on the Spacebus-4000 platform and its life expectancy will be 18 years. The satellite was successfully launched into space on May 4, 2017, at 21:52 UTC, by means of an Ariane 5 vehicle from the French company Arianespace, launched from Guiana Space Centre, Kourou, French Guiana, together with the Koreasat 7. ''Satélite de Coleta de Dados'' (SCD, Portuguese for "Data-Collecting Satellite") is a series of satellites developed in Brazil. SCD-1 The first one, SCD-1, was launched on February 9, 1993, and was the first satellite developed entirely in Brazil and it remains in operation in orbit to this date. SCD-1 was designed, developed, built, and tested by Brazilian scientists, engineers, and technicians working at National Institute of Space Research and in Brazilian industries. It was made to be launched with a Brazilian rocket in 1989. Once it was officially recognized that the rocket could not be completed until many years later, SCD-1, after undergoing minor adaptations, was finally launched with a Pegasus rocket made by Orbital Sciences.
