Adán Cárdenas
Adán Cárdenas del Castillo (7 June 1836 – 1 January 1916) was a Nicaraguan politician and medical doctor. He also served as the President of Nicaragua between 1 March 1883 and 1 March 1887. He was a member of the Conservative Party of Nicaragua. Cárdenas was born in the colonial city of Granada on the shores of Lake Cocibolca in Nicaragua. He and his parent moved to Italy for some time in 1852, where he attended the National School of Genoa and received a doctorate in medicine at the University of Pisa in Tuscany. He returned to Nicaragua in 1862. He was president of the Nicaraguan Congress 1879-1881, 1885-1886 and 1911-1912. Family He was married to Gertrudis Martínez Solórzano, daughter of Tomás Martínez Guerrero, 36th President of Nicaragua, and wife Gertrudis Solórzano Zavala. The co-presidents of Nicaragua (), officially known as the presidency of the Republic of Nicaragua (), are the heads of state and head of government, government of Nicaragua. The office was created in the Constitution of 1854. From 1825 until the Constitution of 1839, the head of state of Nicaragua was styled simply as Head of State (''Jefe de Estado''), and from 1839 to 1854 as Supreme Director (''Supremo Director''). In 2025, the Constitution of Nicaragua was amended to provide for the powers of the presidency to be exercised by two co-presidents rather than a single officeholder. René Cárdenas
René Cárdenas (born February 6, 1930) is a Nicaraguan sports journalist and announcer. He became the first Spanish-language announcer to cover Major League Baseball (MLB), when he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1958. He has also broadcast games for the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers and has announced boxing matches as well. While working for the Astros, Cárdenas developed the first international radio network, which broadcast games to Central and South America. He was the first Spanish-language radio announcer for each of the three MLB baseball teams that he covered. Early life Cárdenas was born in Managua, Nicaragua. The National Congress of Nicaragua () was the legislature of Nicaragua before the Nicaraguan Revolution of 1979. The congress was bicameral, and consisted of Chamber of Deputies () and Senate (). The Chamber of Deputies had 42 members (in 1968). They were popularly elected at-large, with one deputy for each 30 000 citizens. The Chamber of Deputies was the stronger chamber, all legislation was introduced there. The Senate was able block bills from the Chamber of Deputies with two-thirds majority.
