Advice (opinion)
Advice (also called exhortation) is a form of relating personal or institutional opinions, belief systems, values, recommendations or guidance about certain situations relayed in some context to another person, group or party. Advice is often offered as a guide to action and/or conduct. Put a little more simply, an advice message is advice about what might be thought, said, or otherwise done to address a problem, make a decision, or manage a situation. Advice-giving and advice-taking in the social sciences Background information Advice-taking and advice-giving are of interest to researchers in the disciplines of psychology, economics, judgment and decision-making, organizational behavior and human resources, and human communication, among others.Bonaccio, S., & Dalal, R. Advice (programming)
In aspect and functional programming, advice describes a class of functions which modify other functions when the latter are run; it is a certain function, method or procedure that is to be applied at a given join point of a program. Use The practical use of advice functions is generally to modify or otherwise extend the behavior of functions which cannot or should not be readily modified or extended. For instance, the Emacspeak Emacs-addon makes extensive use of advice: it must modify thousands of existing Emacs modules and functions such that it can produce audio output for the blind corresponding to the visual presentation, but it would be infeasible to copy all of them and redefine them to produce audio output in addition to their normal outputs; so, the Emacspeak programmers define advice functions which run before and after. For a simple Emacs example: suppose after a user corrected a mis-spelled word using the Emacs ispell module, they wanted to re-spellcheck the entire ...

Advice (complexity)
In computational complexity theory, an advice string is an extra input to a Turing machine that is allowed to depend on the length ''n'' of the input, but not on the input itself. A decision problem is in the complexity class P/''f''(''n'') if there is a polynomial time Turing machine ''M'' with the following property: for any ''n'', there is an advice string ''A'' of length ''f''(''n'') such that, for any input ''x'' of length ''n'', the machine ''M'' correctly decides the problem on the input ''x'', given ''x'' and ''A''. The most common complexity class involving advice is P/poly where advice length ''f''(''n'') can be any polynomial in ''n''. P/poly is equal to the class of decision problems such that, for every ''n'', there exists a polynomial size Boolean circuit correctly deciding the problem on all inputs of length ''n''. One direction of the equivalence is easy to see. If, for every ''n'', there is a polynomial size Boolean circuit ''A''(''n'') deciding the problem, we ca ...

Pay Slip
A paycheck is traditionally a paper document ( cheque) issued by an employer to pay employee for services rendered. In recent times, the physical paycheck has been increasingly replaced by electronic direct deposits to the employee's designated bank account or loaded onto a payroll card. Employees may still receive a pay slip to detail the calculations of the final payment amount. A salary statement, commonly called a payslip, pay stub, paystub, pay advice, or sometimes paycheck stub or wage slip, is a document received by an employee that either includes a notice that the direct deposit transaction has gone through or that is attached to the paycheck. Each country has laws as to what must be included on a payslip, but this typically includes details of the gross wages for the pay period and the taxes and any other deductions the employer is required to make by law as well as other personal deductions such as retirement plan or pension contributions, insurances, garnishmen ...

ADVISE
ADVISE (Analysis, Dissemination, Visualization, Insight, and Semantic Enhancement) is a research and development program within the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Threat and Vulnerability Testing and Assessment (TVTA) portfolio. It is reportedly developing a massive data mining system, which would collect and analyze data on everyone in the United States and perform a "threat analysis" on them. The data can be anything from financial records, phone records, emails, blog entries, website searches, to any other electronic information that can be put into a computer system. This information is then analyzed, and used to monitor social threats such as community-forming, terrorism, political organizing, or crime. ADVISE will possess the ability to store one quadrillion data entities. The exact scope and degree of completion of the program is unclear. ADVISE is in the 2004-2006 Federal DHS Budget as a component of the $47 million TVTA program. The program was offi ...
