Kwidzyn (; ; Latin: ''Quedin''; Old Prussian: ''Kwēdina'') is a town in northern Poland on the Liwa River. With a population of 36,731, it is the capital of Kwidzyn County in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. SMS ZPRP Gdańsk was a men's handball team based in Gdańsk, Poland. SMS Gdańsk were one of three "Sports Championship Schools" in Poland run by the Poland Handball Federation. Handball and Education The school itself focused on the education of its students, but also has a strong focus on the development of the students in handball. Due to the association of the club with the Poland Handball Federation the club could not be promoted to the Superliga, but also could not be relegated to the 2. Liga either, providing consistent competitiveness for the students. From the team's formation in 1997 until the school was closed in 2021, nearly 100 players went from playing and developing with SMS Gdańsk to playing in the Superliga, Poland's highest handball league. MMTS Kwidzyn is a men's handball club from Kwidzyn, Poland, that plays in the Superliga. The current name of the club is Energa Borys MMTS Kwidzyn due to sponsorship reasons. History The team was founded in 1998. In the 1999/2000 season, it reached 2nd place in the Division 1 Group B and was promoted to the Superliga. In its first season in the Superliga, the team finished in 8th place. Pomezania Malbork is a sports club based in Malbork, Poland. The club now focuses solely on football, but previously also had a handball team. The football team was formed as ''"Bractwo Piłkarskie ″Pomezania″ Malbork"'' in 1990 the club became known by its current official name ''MOP ″Pomezania″ Malbork"'' in 2006.
