Adou Elenga
Adou Elenga (1926 – 4 August 1981) was a Congolese singer-songwriter, composer and guitarist. Signed on the Ngoma label since 1950, during his musical career, he composed several hits such as "Mokili Ekobaluka", which is his best known. The song is considered by Congolese as a prophecy of their independence. Other hits are "Maria Tchebo", "Pyramide", "Tout Le Monde Samedi Soir". His music was covered by many artists, including Sam Mangwana and Bopol Mansiamina. Early life Elenga was born in Watsa, Haut-Uélé in 1926. His father, Mohamed, of Zanzibar origin, was a guitarist. His mother, Amba, was a Congolese precisely from the Tetela tribe. Adou Elenga began his musical career in 1939. With the help of his brother Saidi Mambuleo, in 1947 at the age of 21, he learned to play the guitar. Later, he composed his first song, "Kumambele". Watsa
Watsa is a community in the Haut-Uele Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, administrative center of the Watsa Territory. It is served by Watsa Airport, a grass airstrip south of the town. Watsa was the location of the VI battalion of the Force Publique in the 1940s and 1950s. Between 1998 and 2000, co-circulating Marburg virus and Ravn virus caused 154 cases of Marburg virus disease and 128 deaths among illegal gold miners in Watsa and the nearby Durba Mine. Tetela People
The indigenous people within the Kasai Basin up to Maniema understood themselves to be descendants of "AnKutshu Membele", then in the 20th century many accepted the colonially imposed category and term Tetela (or Batetela in the plural). "Batetela" is now understood as an ethnic group of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, most of whom speak the Tetela language. Description "Batetela" as a clan or tribe did not exist. Only between 1885 and 1887 are the first public geographical journals, notes and books reporting a people named "Batetela". Missionaries were reporting all people speaking languages akin to today's "Kitetela" or culturally similar people as "Batetela" despite the name "Batetela" evolving from the term "Watetera" in reference to bilingual communities from the 1870s Barua lands(Baluba lands in Maniema).
