Administrative Panel
The Administrative Panel is one of five vocational panels which together elect 43 of the 60 members of Seanad Éireann, the senate of the Oireachtas (the legislature of Republic of Ireland, Ireland). The Administrative Panel elects seven senators. Election Article 18 of the Constitution of Ireland provides that 43 of the 60 senators are to be elected from five vocational panels. The Administrative Panel is defined in Article 18.7.1°(v) as "Public Administration and social services, including voluntary social activities". The Seanad returning officer maintains a list of nominating bodies for each of the five panels. Candidates may be nominated either by four members of the Oireachtas or by a nominating body. Seanad Éireann
Seanad Éireann ( ; ; "Senate of Ireland") is the senate of the Oireachtas (the Irish legislature), which also comprises the President of Ireland and Dáil Éireann (defined as the house of representatives). It is commonly called the Seanad or Senate and its members senators ( in Irish language, Irish, singular: ). Unlike Dáil Éireann, it is not directly elected but consists of a mixture of members chosen by various methods. Its powers are much weaker than those of the Dáil and it can only delay laws with which it disagrees, rather than veto them outright. It can introduce new legislation. Since its establishment, it has been located in Leinster House. Local Government In The Republic Of Ireland
The functions of local government in the Republic of Ireland are mostly exercised by thirty-one local authorities, termed County, City, or City and County Councils. The principal decision-making body in each of the thirty-one local authorities is composed of the members of the council, elected by universal franchise in local elections every five years from multi-seat local electoral areas using the single transferable vote. Many of the authorities' statutory functions are, however, the responsibility of ministerially appointed career officials termed chief executive (Irish local government), Chief executives. Michael Hearne
Michael Hearne (died 1954) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He was a member of Seanad Éireann from April to August 1938, and from 1943 to 1954. He was first elected to the 2nd Seanad in April 1938 to the Industrial and Commercial Panel, but lost his seat at the August 1938 election. Richard Walsh (Irish Politician)
Richard Walsh (1889 – 4 December 1957) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. In 1913 Richard Walsh and Michael Kilroy were the main organizers of the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) in south and western Mayo. He was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Mayo South constituency at the September 1927 general election. Joseph Hannigan
Joseph Hannigan (1904 – 14 April 1957)''The Irish Times'', 15 April 1957, page 3. was an Irish politician and medical practitioner. Hannigan was first elected to Dáil Éireann as an independent Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin South constituency at the 1937 general election. He was re-elected at the 1938 general election, and in 1939 he joined the Labour Party. He lost his seat at the 1943 general election. He left the Labour Party in 1943. Desmond FitzGerald (politician)
Desmond FitzGerald (born Thomas Joseph FitzGerald;13 February 1888 – 9 April 1947) was an Irish revolutionary, politician, and poet, known for his role in the Irish independence movement and for his ministerial roles in Irish governments; he was Director of Publicity from 1919 to 1921, Minister for Publicity from 1921 to 1922, Minister for External Affairs from 1922 to 1927 and finally Minister for Defence from 1927 to 1932. Born in London to an Irish family, FitzGerald moved to Paris in his early twenties, where he became involved in the Imagist group of poets. In 1913, FitzGerald returned to Ireland and the next year became active in the Irish Volunteers, a paramilitary organisation that sought Irish independence from Britain. FitzGerald partook in the Easter Rising of 1916 in Dublin and was subsequently imprisoned for two years by the British. James McGee (Irish Politician)
James Thomas McGee (23 September 1885 – 19 January 1956) was an Irish farmer, cattle dealer and politician. The owner of a farm at Kellystown near Ardee, County Louth, he was chairman of the Irish Cattle Traders and Stockowners Association. He was involved in local politics. He was a member of Louth County Council for forty years, of which he was chairman from 1925 to 1955. He was also chairman of Ardee Town Commissioners. He was an independent member of Seanad Éireann from 1938 to 1956. Michael Hayes (politician)
Michael Joseph Hayes (1 December 1889 – 11 July 1976) was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann from 1922 to 1932, Minister for Foreign Affairs from August 1922 to September 1922 and Minister for Education January 1922 to August 1922. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the National University constituency from 1921 to 1933. He was a Senator from 1938 to 1965. Hayes was born in Dublin in 1889. He was educated at the Synge Street CBS and at University College Dublin (UCD). He later became a lecturer in French at the university. In 1913, he joined the Irish Volunteers and fought in Jacob's Factory during the Easter Rising in 1916. He escaped capture but was arrested in 1920 and interned at Ballykinlar, County Down. Margaret Mary Pearse
Margaret Mary Pearse (4 August 1878 – 7 November 1968) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician and teacher. She was the sister of Patrick Pearse, Patrick and Willie Pearse, two of the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising. Early life Margaret Mary Pearse was born at 27 Pearse Street, Great Brunswick Street, in Dublin, the eldest child of James Pearse and Margaret Pearse (née Brady). She grew up in cramped living conditions as often the other rooms in the house were rented to subtenants, leaving the Pearse family to share one room. During her childhood, Margaret was very friendly with James Vincent, her half-brother from her father's previous marriage. Their close relationship did not follow into adulthood.
