Adelophryne
''Adelophryne'' is a genus of frogs in the family Eleutherodactylidae. They are native to northern South America east of the Andes, known roughly from the area corresponding to the Guiana Shield, as well as to the coastal area of Bahia, Brazil. Whether the genus is truly distinct from ''Phyzelaphryne'' remains uncertain. Common name shield frogs has been proposed for this genus, although the stem flea frog is used for some species. Etymology The generic name is derived from the Greek words ''adelos'', meaning "unseen, unknown, obscure", and ''phryne'' for "toad". It refers to the fact that these small frogs were seldom collected until relatively lately. Description ''Adelophryne'' are small leaf-litter frogs. Adults of the largest species, ''A. patamona'', measure no more than in snout–to–vent length and the remaining all are less than . At in males and in females, ''A. michelin'' is not only the smallest in the genus, but among the smallest frogs of the Americas, with on ...

It is found in the Amazon Basin in Colombia ( Amazonas and Vaupés Departments), Ecuador (Pastaza Province), Peru, and western Brazil. The head is longer than it is wide, and slightly wider than the body. Dorsal skin is shagreened to granular. The snout is rounded. The tympanum is small but distinct. The fingers and toes are depressed. Finger tips have no discs but have asymmetrically pointed tips. The toes have circumferentially grooved, asymmetrically pointed discs. There is neither webbing nor lateral fringes. Adult males have a large, subgular vocal sac. Adelophryne Patamona
''Adelophryne patamona'' is a species of frog in the family Eleutherodactylidae. It is endemic to the Pacaraima Mountains of southwestern Guyana, although it is likely to also occur in the adjacent Roraima state of Brazil. It is most closely related to '' A. gutturosa''. Description Adult males measure (based on just two individuals) and adult females in snout–vent length. It is the largest species of its genus. The snout is rounded. The tympanum is small and covered by a fold posterodorsally. The skin of the dorsum, venter, and limbs is smooth but has scattered small tubercles. The flanks and rear of the thighs are areolate. The front toes are flattened, unwebbed, and have small pointed discs at their tips. The back toes are also flattened, unwebbed, and have small narrow discs at their tips. Adelophryne Pachydactyla
''Adelophryne pachydactyla'' is a species of frog in the family Eleutherodactylidae. It is endemic to the coastal area of south-central Bahia state, Brazil. Some specimens first identified as ''A. pachydactyla'' have later been found to represent a new species, '' Adelophryne mucronatus''; the two species can occur in sympatry. The specific name ''pachydactyla'' is derived from Greek ''pachys'' (=thick) and ''daktylos'' (=finger), referring to the thick, short, swollen fingers of this frog. Description ''Adelophryne pachydactyla'' was described based on a single specimen, the holotype. It is an adult male measuring in snout–vent length, and with a subgular vocal sac. The head is slightly longer than it is wide. The snout is rounded. The tympanic annulus is incomplete, obscured by skin in its upper parts. There is no supra-tympanic fold and the canthus rostralis is indistinct. The limbs are relatively short. The fingers are short and have swollen, subdigital pads but no dis ...

It is found on the Guiana Shield from eastern Venezuela through Guyana to French Guiana and adjacent Brazil (Amapá), possibly extending to Suriname. Its type locality is Mount Roraima. Its local Spanish name is ''ranita guturosa''. Taxonomy Recent molecular research suggests that ''A. gutturosa'' consists of more than one species. Description Adult males measure and females in snout–vent length. The snout is truncate. The head is slightly wider than the body. The tympanum is small but distinct. The canthus rostralis is indistinct. Females have a horizontal supra-tympanic fold. The fingers have asymmetrically pointed tips but no discs, whereas the toe tips have grooved, asymmetrically pointed discs. Skin is smooth. The dorsum is light brown and flanks are black. Males have large subgular vocal sac. Habitat and conservation ''Adelophryne gutturosa'' occur ...
