The Adelaide International was a biennial art exhibition held in at the Samstag Museum of Art in Adelaide, South Australia, in partnership with the Adelaide Festival of the Arts, from 2010 to 2014. The series featured a range of contemporary visual works from artists based outside Australia. After a pause in the partnership was agreed, the exhibition was revived by the Samstag in 2019 as a series of three annual events, with the new title Adelaide//International, with a different context and concept: the 2019 exhibition was about the effect of colonisation on indigenous culture. The Adelaide International is a professional tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts in Adelaide, South Australia at the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre. The tournament is held in January or February, and forms part of the WTA and ATP tours. The event is part of the lead-up to the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the Australian Open. History The establishment of the Brisbane International in 2009 saw the city of Adelaide miss out on continuing to host an ATP or WTA lead-up event to the Australian Open. Over the next ten years Adelaide hosted the World Tennis Challenge, an exhibition event played featuring past players. The unveiling of the multi-city ATP Cup competition, held around the same time, resulted in the abolition of the Hopman Cup and the condensing of other tournaments, thereby allowing sufficient room in the calendar for the Adelaide International. The Adelaide International Raceway (also known as Adelaide International or AIR) is a permanent circuit owned by Australian Motorsport Club Limited under the auspices of the Bob Jane Corporation. The circuit is located north of Adelaide in South Australia on Port Wakefield Road at Virginia, and is adjacent to Adelaide's premier car racing Dirt track racing venue, Speedway City. AIR is owned by the Bob Jane Corporation and run by the Australian Motorsport Club Ltd. History Adelaide International Raceway (AIR) was built by Surfers Paradise businessman Keith Williams in 1972. Williams also owned the Mallala Race Circuit and Surfers Paradise International Raceway. Williams owned the track, which remained in an almost 'raw state' until purchased in 1982 by the Bob Jane Corporation. The race track can be used in four different configurations.
