Adelaide Ristori
Adelaide Ristori (29 January 1822 – 9 October 1906) was a distinguished Italian tragedienne, who was often referred to as the Marquise. Biography She was born in Cividale del Friuli, the daughter of strolling players and appeared as a child on the stage. At age fourteen, she made her first success as Francesca da Rimini in Silvio Pellico's tragedy of the same name. At eighteen she was playing '' Mary Stuart'' in an Italian version of Friedrich Schiller's play of the same name. She had been a member of the Sardinian company and also of the Ducal company at Parma for some years before her marriage to Giuliano Capranica, '' marchese'' del Grillo, in 1846. After a short retirement from her career, she returned to the stage and played regularly in Turin and the provinces. Cividale Del Friuli
Cividale del Friuli (, locally ; ; ) is a town and (municipality) in the Regional decentralization entity of Udine, part of the North-Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Gabriel Jean Baptiste Ernest Wilfrid Legouvé (; 14 February 180714 March 1903) was a French dramatist. Biography Son of the poet Gabriel-Marie Legouvé (1764–1812), he was born in Paris. His mother died in 1810, and almost immediately afterwards his father was removed to a lunatic asylum. The child, however, inherited a considerable fortune, and was carefully educated. Jean Nicolas Bouilly (1763–1842) was his tutor, and instilled in the young Legouvé a passion for literature, to which the example of his father and of his grandfather, Jean-Baptiste Legouvé (1729–1783), predisposed him. As early as 1829 he carried away a prize of the Académie française for a poem on the discovery of printing; and in 1832 he published a curious little volume of verses, entitled ''Les Morts Bizarres''. ''Mary Stuart'' (, ) is a verse play by Friedrich Schiller that depicts the last days of Mary, Queen of Scots. The play consists of five acts, each divided into several scenes. The play had its première in Weimar, Germany on 14 June 1800. The play formed the basis for Gaetano Donizetti, Donizetti's opera ''Maria Stuarda'' (1835). Allendale (aka Allandale) is a town in Victoria, Australia, located north-east of Creswick, in the Shire of Hepburn. At the , Allendale and the surrounding area had a population of 166. The town began as a mining settlement around the Berry Leads mining area. It had a peak population of about 1,500. Eduardo Majeroni (1840 – 20 October 1891) was an actor who toured the world with Adelaide Ristori, playing popular Italian dramas in their original language. He and his wife Giulia, a niece of Ristori, left the company in Australia and carved out a career playing the same repertoire in English translations. Giulia was an actress, and their two sons Mario and George had acting careers in America. History Majeroni was born in Bergamo, the youngest of 17 children, and educated in Milan. Paolo Giacometti (1816–1882) was an Italian dramatist born at Novi Ligure. He was educated in law at Genoa, but at the age of twenty had some success with his play ''Rosilda'' and then devoted himself to the stage. Depressed circumstances made him attach himself as author to various touring Italian companies, and his output was considerable; moreover, such actors as Adelaide Ristori, Ristori, Ernesto Rossi (actor), Rossi and Tommaso Salvini, Salvini made many of these plays great successes.
