Addiewell F.C.
Addiewell Football Club was a Scottish senior football club from the village of Addiewell, Midlothian. History The club was founded in 1880. Its first recorded match was an 8–0 defeat to the Shotts F.C., Shotts reserve XI, and its first competitive football came in the East of Scotland Shield, Edinburgh Shield that September, with a 7–1 defeat to Burntisland Thistle F.C., Burntisland Thistle. The club did improve over the season, and won 6 of 12 matches, but one of the defeats was by 8 goals to 1 at home to the closest club West Calder F.C., West Calder, which, although with fewer members, had more experience of the game. Addiewell nevertheless joined the Scottish Football Association, at the same time as West Calder, in time to enter the 1881–82 Scottish Cup. Addiewell
Addiewell ( sco, Aidieswall, gd, Tobar Adaidh) is a former mining village in the Scottish council area of West Lothian. Historically it lies within the County of Midlothian. A new prison, HMP Addiewell, opened in 2008. There are two separate districts, Addiebrownhill and Loganlea. Addiewell is near Stoneyburn and West Calder. History In 1852 James Young left Manchester to return to live in Scotland. On return he bought the United States-registered patent for the production of paraffin oil by distillation of coal, known as the oil shale industry. Both the US and UK patents were subsequently upheld in both countries in a series of lawsuits, and other producers were obliged to pay him royalties. 1882–83 Scottish Cup
The 1882–83 Scottish Cup – officially the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup – was the tenth season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. Dumbarton won the cup for the first, and so far only, time when they beat Vale of Leven 2–1 in a replayed final. Defending champions Queen's Park were knock-out by eventual winners Dumbarton in the quarter-finals. Calendar As with the previous competitions, the eighth edition of the Scottish Cup took on the format of a traditional knockout tournament. For the earlier rounds, the names of competing teams were placed into lots according to their districts and drawn into pairs. Mossend is a small town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, located on the A775 road to the immediate east of its 'sister town' Bellshill, west of the villages of Holytown and New Stevenston, north of the larger town of Motherwell and south of the Eurocentral industrial park and the M8 motorway. Along with Holytown, it forms a council ward which had a population of 13,480 in 2019, Mossend's estimated population being around half of that total.
