Addie Donnell Van Noppen
Addie Cabe Donnell Van Noppen (March 29, 1870 – January 9, 1964) was an American historian and civic leader. She was the organizing regent of the Guilford Battle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as the North Carolina DAR's State Historian from 1901 to 1907. In 1915, she authored ''The Battle Field of Guilford Court House''. Biography Van Noppen was born Addie Cabe Donnell on March 29, 1870 to George Donnell and Sarah Jane Caldwell Donnell. She was a great-granddaughter of Congressman William Davidson. She was the organizing chapter regent of the Guilford Battle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (often abbreviated as DAR or NSDAR) is a lineage-based membership service organization for women who are directly descended from a patriot of the American Revolutionary War. A non-profit and non-political group, the organization promotes historical preservation, education and patriotism. Its membership is limited to direct lineal descendants of soldiers or others of the American Revolution era who aided the revolution and its subsequent war. Green Hill Cemetery (Greensboro, North Carolina)
Green Hill Cemetery is located in Greensboro, North Carolina and it on 51 acres of rolling land. Opened in 1877, it is Greensboro's oldest publicly operated cemetery. The cemetery is managed by the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department. Tours of the cemetery are held by Friends of Green Hill Cemetery, a non-profit organization. Green Hill Cemetery is also home to a plethora of plants and more than 700 different types of trees. William Davidson (congressman)
William Davidson (September 12, 1778 – September 16, 1857) was a U.S. Representative from North Carolina. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Davidson completed preparatory studies. He moved with his parents to North Carolina in early youth and settled in Mecklenburg County. He is the father of Sarah Frew Davidson. He engaged extensively in planting. He served as member of the State senate in 1813 from 1815 to 1819, and 1825. He moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1820. Davidson was elected as a Federalist to the Fifteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Daniel M. Forney. He was reelected to the Sixteenth Congress and served from December 2, 1818, to March 3, 1821. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1820 to the Seventeenth Congress. Guilford Courthouse National Military Park
Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, at 2332 New Garden Road in Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina, commemorates the Battle of Guilford Court House, fought on March 15, 1781. This battle opened the campaign that led to American victory in the Revolutionary War. Though they won the battle, the casualties suffered by the British in this battle contributed to their surrender at Yorktown seven months later. The battlefield is preserved as a National Military Park and operated by the National Park Service (NPS). Based on research of historical evidence, the interpretation of the battle has changed since the late 20th century, which will affect the placement of monuments and markers.
