Adderley Park
Adderley Park is an area in the east of Birmingham, England. Charles Adderley MP donated of land to create the park, which he managed privately from 1855 to 1864. The park was opened to the public on 30 August 1856. At the park's entrance were buildings housing a library, reading room and museum. The buildings have since been demolished. The area is served by Adderley Park railway station. Adderley Park is notable for being the home of Wolseley Motors Wolseley Motors Limited was a British motor vehicle manufacturer founded in early 1901 by the Vickers Armaments in conjunction with Herbert Austin. Birmingham City Council is the local authority for the city of Birmingham in the West Midlands, England. Charles Adderley, 1st Baron Norton
Charles Bowyer Adderley, 1st Baron Norton (2 August 181428 March 1905) was a British Conservative politician. Background and education Charles Bowyer Adderley was the eldest son of Charles Clement Adderley (d. 1818), offspring of an old Staffordshire family, and his wife, daughter of Sir Edmund Cradock-Hartopp, 1st Baronet. Adderley inherited Hams Hall, Warwickshire, and the valuable estates of his great-uncle, Charles Bowyer Adderley, in 1826. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1838. Political career In 1841, Adderley entered the House of Commons as Member of Parliament for North Staffordshire, retaining his seat until 1878, when he was created Baron Norton. Adderley Park Railway Station
Adderley Park railway station serves the Adderley Park area in the east of Birmingham, England. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by West Midlands Trains. It was threatened with closure in 2004, but was given a reprieve (although its train service was reduced from half-hourly to hourly each way). The station will become the main railway station for the proposed City of Birmingham Stadium, if that is constructed. It lies on Bordesley Green Road, part of the B4145. History Opened by the London and North Western Railway, it became part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway following the Grouping of 1923. The line passed to the London Midland Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948. Wolseley Motors
Wolseley Motors Limited was a British motor vehicle manufacturer founded in early 1901 by the Vickers Armaments in conjunction with Herbert Austin. It initially made a full range, topped by large luxury cars, and dominated the market in the Edwardian era. The Vickers brothers diedin 1914 and 1919 respectively and, without their guidance, Wolseley expanded rapidly after the war, manufacturing 12,000 cars in 1921, and remained the biggest motor manufacturer in Britain. Over-expansion led to receivership in 1927 when it was bought from Vickers Limited by William Morris as a personal investment. He moved it into his Morris Motors empire just before the Second World War. After that, Wolseley products were "badge-engineered" Morris cars. Wolseley went with its sister businesses into BMC, BMH and British Leyland, where its name lapsed in 1975.
