Adcor A-556
The ADCOR A-556 is an assault rifle based on the M16/M4 series. It is produced by the Adcor Defense Company and was one of the contenders in the US Army Individual Carbine Competition to replace the M4 Carbine. History In 2005, Adcor Defense was contracted by Colt to produce upper receivers for the M4 Carbine. Adcor was able to produce 1,000 uppers per day, compared to 450 uppers per day that Colt was able to manufacture. After years of production, Adcor Defense decided to improve upon the weapon. They claimed it was not a “new and improved” AR, but a patented revolutionary gas piston system with other key features that set it apart from all other M4-type rifles. The Adaptive Combat Rifle (ACR) (known initially as the Masada) is a modular assault rifle designed by Magpul Industries of Austin, Texas. In late January 2008, Bushmaster Firearms International entered into a licensing agreement with Magpul whereby Bushmaster would take over production, future development, and sales of the Masada. Individual Carbine
The Individual Carbine was a competition to select the planned successor to the M4 carbine in the United States Army. The U.S. Army conducted an open competition for a carbine to replace the M4. This competition was for the Army only—the United States Marine Corps and other branches chose to stay with current weapons in service. The proposal was passed before the Joint Requirements Oversight Council in August 2010, and the Army was to solicit submissions from the small arms industry by the end of that year. The competition was open to all manufacturers. However, Phase II testing reduced the field down to six rifles.
