Adama Diakhite
Adama Alex Diakhite (born 12 April 1997) is a Senegalese basketball player who plays for AS Douanes of the Nationale 1 and the Basketball Africa League (BAL). A center, he played college basketball in the Philippines before turning professional in 2022. College career In 2017, Diakhite started playing played collegiate basketball in the Philippines for Diliman College. He transferred to the University of the East Red Warriors in 2018. He averaged 17.6 points and 13.7 rebounds per game in his first season with UE. Professional career In December 2021, Diakhite was announced as a new member of the Senegalese champions DUC Dakar. On 5 March, Diakhite made his professional debut in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) by scoring 17 points in a loss against SLAC. On 11 March, he scored a career-high 30 points along with 11 rebounds and 2 blocks to power his team past REG. Over five games, he averaged a team-high 16.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game for DUC. The center (C), or the centre, also known as the five or the pivot, is one of the five positions in a regulation basketball game. The center is normally the tallest player on the team, and often has a great deal of strength and body mass as well. In the NBA, the center is typically close to tall. They traditionally play close to the basket in the low post. Centers are valued for their ability to protect their own goal from high-percentage close attempts on defense, while scoring and rebounding with high efficiency on offense. 2023 BAL Season
The 2023 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 3, is the third season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 11 March 2023 and will end on 27 May 2023, with the playoffs and finals being played in the BK Arena in Kigali, which hosts the finals for a third season in a row. The regular season is played in Dakar, Senegal (Sahara Conference) and Cairo, Egypt (Nile Conference) for a second year in a row. The qualification games for the season, the Road to BAL, began on 11 October 2022. The winners of the 2023 BAL season will automatically qualify for the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup Singapore. 2023 BAL Playoffs
The 2023 BAL Playoffs was the postseason tournament of the 2023 BAL season to determine the champions of the third Basketball Africa League (BAL) season. For a third consecutive season, the playoffs will be hosted in the BK Arena in Kigali. Al Ahly defeated AS Douanes in the final, for their first-ever BAL title. Qualified teams On 16 March 2023, the BAL incorrectly reported that REG became the first team to qualify for the playoffs. US Monastir and ABC Fighters were also reported to have qualified on 20 March. However, only on the last day of the Sahara Conference, the final ranking was determined and the four advancing teams were decided based on their head-to-head point difference. Rwanda Energy Group BBC, commonly known as REG, is a Rwandan basketball club based in Kigali. It is owned and named after the company Rwanda Energy Group Limited.
