Adam Thompson (politician)
Adam Thompson (born 30 November 1990) is a British Labour Party politician who has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Erewash since 2024. He stood for the neighbouring Amber Valley constituency for the previous general election in 2019. Early life and education Thompson graduated with an MPhys BSc in physics from the University of Warwick in 2013, followed by a PGCE at the University of Southampton. He attained a PhD in metrology from the University of Nottingham, following which he worked at the university as a research scientist in manufacturing engineering. He served as a union representative for research scientists at the institution as a member of the University and College Union. Having trained as a teacher, he has cited his experience working in schools during Michael Gove's tenure as Education Secretary as a key influence on his decision to enter electoral politics. Linsey Jayne Farnsworth is a British Labour Party politician serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for Amber Valley since 2024. Early life and career Farnsworth was raised in Erewash, Derbyshire and the first in her family to attend university. Her father was a coal miner who, following mine closures, retrained as a bricklayer and her stepmother was a nurse. Qualifying as a solicitor in 2001, Farnsworth worked as a criminal solicitor for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for over two decades. During her tenure at the CPS, she prosecuted serious and organised crime as an international liaison prosecutor. Nigel John Mills (born 1974) is a British politician and former chartered accountant who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Amber Valley in Derbyshire from the 2010 general election until he lost his seat in the 2024 general election. A member of the Conservative Party, he has campaigned for the pro-Brexit, Eurosceptic Leave Means Leave group following the 2016 European Union membership referendum. Sandiacre is a town and civil parish in the borough of Erewash in Derbyshire,England adjoining the border with Nottinghamshire. The population of the parish was 8,889 at the 2011 Census. The name Sandiacre is usually thought to refer to a ''sandy acre'', though another interpretation, based on ''Saint Diacre'', is sometimes advanced.
