Adam Knight
Adam Knight is an Australian art curator and dealer. He has operated seven commercial art galleries and is the owner of the Mitchelton Gallery of Aboriginal Art, located in Taungurung country outside Nagambie in Victoria, Australia. Knight has influenced the careers of some of the most important Aboriginal Australian artists, including Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Rover Thomas, Ningura Napurrula, Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi, Naata Nungurrayi, Yannima Tommy Watson, and Gloria and Kathleen Petyarre. Early life and education Knight was born in Broadford, Victoria, Australia. He was an only child and grew up in a farming community not connected to a power company's grid. Johnny Warangkula Tjupurrula
Johnny Warangkula Tjupurrula (1925 – 12 February 2001) was an Australian painter whose work has been widely collected and well-regarded since the late 60s. Many of his pieces are said to stand out from that of other Australian Aboriginal artists in the way they present the transitory beauty of water and its transformative effect on the landscape represented in works. His paintings are held in galleries and collections in Australia and elsewhere, including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Museum of Australia, the Art Gallery of Western Australia and the National Gallery of Victoria. Shirley Purdie
Shirley Purdie (born 1947) is a contemporary Indigenous Australian artist, notable for winning the 2007 Blake Prize for Religious Art. She is a painter at Warmun Community, in Western Australia's Kimberley region. Life Purdie was born in 1947 at Gilbun, or Mabel Downs Station, in Western Australia's Kimberley region, daughter of Madigan Thomas. Queenie McKenzie
Queenie McKenzie (Nakarra) (formerly Oakes, or Mingmarriya) (c. 1915 – 16 November 1998) was an Aboriginal Australian artist. She was born on Old Texas Station, on the western bank of the Ord River in the East Kimberley. Early life McKenzie's mother was Malngin and Gurundji and her father was a white horse-breaker. Under the existing policy during the time of her youth, McKenzie was at risk of removal by the government to an institution, as was the fate of many Aboriginal children with mixed parentage at the time. The government policy at the time (which lasted until 1970) sought to institutionalize mixed-race children.
