Adam Holzman (guitarist)
Adam Holzman (born 1960 in New York City) is a classical guitarist. He is Professor of Guitar at the University of Texas at Austin and is the Parker C. Fielder Regents Professor in Music. Formerly he was associate professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa. In 1989 he joined the faculty and the University of Texas at Austin Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music where he founded its classical guitar studio. In 1990 he founded the Austin Guitar Society. In 2017, he founded The Brevard Music Center Summer Festival Guitar Program. Holzman held the title of "Maestro Extraordinario" given by the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, Monterrey, Mexico, where he served as artist-in-residence until 1992. His teachers include Albert Blain, Bruce Holzman, Eliot Fisk, Andrés Segovia and Oscar Ghiglia. He was chosen twice as a student in the US master classes of Andrés Segovia. Eliot Fisk
Eliot Hamilton Fisk (born August 10, 1954) is an American classical guitarist. Music career Education and teaching Fisk was born into a Quaker family in Philadelphia. He finished high school in DeWitt, New York, and then studied music at Yale University with harpsichordists Ralph Kirkpatrick and Albert Fuller. He received both B.A. and M.S. degrees, and in 1977 started Yale's guitar department. He was a student of guitarists Oscar Ghiglia, Alirio Díaz, and Andrés Segovia. He received private lessons from Segovia over the years and was his last private student. Segovia became his mentor and one of his biggest admirers. In 1989 Fisk became an instructor at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg in Austria and in 1996 at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Oscar Ghiglia
Oscar Alberto Ghiglia (13 August 1938 – 3 March 2024) was an Italian classical guitarist. Biography Early years Born in Livorno to an artistic family – his father and grandfather were both famed painters, his mother an accomplished pianist – Oscar Ghiglia had to choose between a path strewn with brushes and colours and a world cut into harmony and melody. Though his early choice produced a few hundred water colours and a number of oil paintings, he soon realized music was his way. For this decision he thanked his father, who one day made him pose for a painting showing a guitarist. For this he had to hold his father's guitar, a companion to his artistic musings in front of his forming works. This painting was the start to a lifetime of disciplined dedication to music. Andrés Segovia
Andrés Segovia Torres, 1st Marquis of Salobreña (21 February 1893 – 2 June 1987), was a Spanish virtuoso classical guitarist. Many professional classical guitarists were either students of Segovia or students of Segovia's students. Segovia's contribution to the modern-romantic repertoire included not only commissions but also his own transcriptions of classical or baroque works. He is remembered for his expressive performances: his wide palette of tone, and his distinctive musical personality, phrasing and style. Early life Segovia was born on 21 February 1893 in Linares, Jaén. He was sent at a very young age to live with his uncle Eduardo and aunt María.
