Actual Radio is an Independent Local Radio station serving Colchester & North East Essex in the United Kingdom. Broadcasting via Digital Audio Broadcasting, DAB across Essex and Online via smart speaker. The station is owned by Pete Chapman. The station, serving a local population of around 350,000, broadcasts shows from its studio in the city centre 24 hours a day. Colchester
Colchester ( ) is a city in Essex, in the East of England. It had a population of 122,000 in 2011. The demonym is Colcestrian. Colchester occupies the site of Camulodunum, the first major city in Roman Britain and its first capital. Colchester therefore claims to be Britain's first city. Heart Essex (formerly Essex Radio and then Essex FM) is a British Commercial broadcasting, commercial radio station. It was launched on 12 September 1981, broadcasting from Southend-on-Sea and since 27 October 2004 from Chelmsford, both in Essex. History Heart began as Essex Radio in September 1981 broadcasting on 95.3 MHz & 1431 kHz to Southend-on-Sea and 96.4 MHz & 1359 kHz to Chelmsford in December 1981. Dream 100 was an independent local radio station owned and operated by Bauer. It broadcast to Tendring and Essex from studios in Colchester and Ipswich, airing the same music programming as sister station Town 102. The station was folded into Greatest Hits Radio East, as part of a rebrand and merger, on 1 September 2020. History The station was founded as medium wave outlet Mellow 1557 on 1557 kHz in 1990. The station launched on 7 October 1990 as an easy listening station for Tendring. In 1992 Southern Radio PLC acquired Mellow, as part of a reverse takeover by the Invicta Radio Group, making it part of the same company that owned Invicta FM, Ocean FM, Southern FM, Invicta Supergold and South Coast Radio. Heart Colchester (formerly SGR Colchester) was a radio station broadcasting to Colchester and the surrounding areas. The station was launched in 1993 as SGR Colchester by the East Anglian Radio group, which also operated the Ipswich-based SGR-FM, Radio Broadland in Norwich, and Amber Radio across Suffolk and Norfolk. Nation Radio Suffolk is an Independent Local radio station owned and operated by Nation Broadcasting. It broadcasts from Ipswich in Suffolk. As of December 2022, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 27,000, according to RAJAR. History The licence for the area had previously been held by Town 102 but Ofcom awarded the licence to Ipswich 102. This had been the first time in its history that Ofcom had not awarded a re-advertised licence to the incumbent broadcaster.
