Active Vilnius Arena
The Active Vilnius Arena is a 2,741-seat basketball arena in Vilnius, Lithuania, built next to Twinsbet Arena that is used mostly as a home venue of Rytas Vilnius of the Lithuanian Basketball League and Kibirkštis Vilnius of the Lithuanian Women's Basketball League. History In 2014, its capacity was expanded from 1,700 seats to 2,500 seats with the aim to host EuroCup games. In 2021, the arena was bought from BC Rytas by the Vilnius City Municipality for €3.56 million. After Avia Solutions Group Arena went into reconstruction in 2022, the arena became Rytas’ full-time home ground. Before the 2022-23 season, Rytas only played their home games in the Jeep Arena for Lithuanian Basketball League fixtures and used the bigger arena for Basketball Champions League home games. Basketball Champions League
The Basketball Champions League (BCL), also commonly known as the FIBA Champions League, is an annual professional basketball competition for European sports club, clubs, organised by FIBA. It is the European professional club basketball system, top-level competition organised by FIBA Europe, therefore the champion participates in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Šeškinė (''literally'' ) is a district located in the north of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, built in 1977 as a microdistrict. BC VIČI-Aistės Kaunas was a Lithuanian women's basketball club based in Kaunas. Before ceasing operations due to financial difficulties, the team was the most titled women's basketball club in Lithuania. History The team, originally called "Kibirkštis" (transl. "Spark"), was founded in Vilnius in 1961 as homage to a nearby electrical welding equipment plant. Its first coach was Algis Gedminas, a no-nonsense disciplinarian who had previously taught at a Moldavian pedagogical institute. Under Gedminas's direction, Kibirkštis quickly became a powerhouse in the Soviet Lithuanian women's basketball league, winning back-to-back championships in the late 1960s and early 1970s, as well as several bronze medals in the top-tier Soviet basketball tournament. The EuroLeague is a European men's professional basketball club competition. The league is widely recognised as the top-tier and the most prestigious men's basketball league in Europe. The league consists of 20 teams, of which 16 are given long-term licences and wild cards, making the league a semi-closed league.
