''Acraea niobe'' is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It is found on the island of São Tomé. The species was first described by Emily Mary Bowdler Sharpe in 1893. The specific name of the species refers to the Greek myth of Niobe. Description ''A. niobe'' E. Sharpe is an interesting species, unfortunately, however, only known to me urivilliusthrough the description and figure. Eltringham considers its affinities quite uncertain; it seems to me to be most nearly allied to ''egina'' and ''medea''. Emily Mary Bowdler Sharpe
Emily Mary Bowdler Sharpe, born on 11 December 1868, was an English entomologist, colourist and illustrator Emily Mary Bowdler Sharpe was the eldest of ten daughters of Richard Bowdler Sharpe (1847–1909) and Emily Eliza Sharpe (née Burrows; 1842–1928). She had 11 sisters and one brother who died in infancy. She learned her craft from her father and initially she worked as a colourist on her father's books before dedicating herself to the study of butterflies. She worked throughout her life on butterflies, and described many new species. Butterflies are insects in the macrolepidopteran clade Rhopalocera from the order Lepidoptera, which also includes moths. In Greek mythology, Niobe (; grc-gre, Νιόβη ) was a daughter of Tantalus and of either Dione, the most frequently cited, or of Eurythemista or Euryanassa, the wife of Amphion and the sister of Pelops and Broteas. Her father was the ruler of a city located near Manisa in today's Aegean Turkey that was called "Tantalis" or "the city of Tantalus", or "Sipylus". The Consortium for the Barcode of Life (CBOL) was an international initiative dedicated to supporting the development of DNA barcoding as a global standard for species identification. CBOL's Secretariat Office is hosted by the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, in Washington, DC.
