The Ackerley Group was an American media company owned by Barry Ackerley that owned several television stations (mainly in New York, California, as well as one in Fairbanks) that was sold to Clear Channel Communications in 2001. In addition to ownership of television stations across the country, the company also owned and operated several radio stations in the Seattle, WA market. The company also owned the NBA Seattle SuperSonics and WNBA Seattle Storm professional basketball teams. At the time of the closure of the transaction, the sale price was reported to be 38 times cashflow (approximately $1.1B USD) the highest ever sale valuation for a North American publicly traded media company in the history of the NYSE. KGET-TV (channel 17) is a television station in Bakersfield, California, United States, affiliated with NBC and The CW Plus. It is owned by Nexstar Media Group alongside low-power Telemundo affiliate KKEY-LP (channel 13). The two stations share studios on L Street in Downtown Bakersfield; KGET's transmitter is located atop Mount Adelaide. History Founded by businessman Ed Urner, channel 17 first broadcast on November 8, 1959 as KLYD-TV, an ABC affiliate. KION-TV (channel 46) is a television station licensed to Monterey, California, United States, affiliated with CBS, Fox, and Telemundo. Owned by the News-Press & Gazette Company, it serves the Monterey Bay area from studios located on Moffett Street in Salinas, immediately south of Salinas Municipal Airport, and a transmitter on Mount Toro, about south of Salinas. The station is rebroadcast on translator KMUV-LD (channel 21), with transmitter on Fremont Peak.
