Acid King (band)
Acid King is an American stoner metal band from San Francisco, California. It was formed in 1993 by frontwoman Lori S., drummer Joey Osbourne and bassist Peter Lucas. Acid King have since recorded four studio albums and two EPs with a series of bassists. The band's name was inspired by the crimes of Ricky Kasso, who murdered his friend Gary Lauwers in Northport, New York on June 19, 1984. Kasso was nicknamed "Acid King" by his peers due to his chronic hallucinogenic drug use. The band's self-titled debut EP features a photograph of Kasso on its cover. The band itself has also been featured in two books – ''The Encyclopedia of Heavy Metal'' and the ''A to Z of Doom, Gothic & Stoner Metal'' – both published in 2003. ''Busse Woods'' is an album by the stoner metal band Acid King. The album was released in 1999 by Man's Ruin Records; it was reissued in 2004, with bonus tracks, by Small Stone Records, and on vinyl in 2007 by Kreation Records. The album's title (pronounced buss-ee) is the local name for the Ned Brown Forest Preserve, which is located near Chicago. As a teenager, frontwoman Lori S. often met there with friends to hang out and take drugs. The reissue of ''Busse Woods'' has slightly different artwork and two extra songs, cover versions of " Motorhead", by Hawkwind, and "Not Fragile", by Bachman-Turner Overdrive. The cover versions were released on the compilation albums ''Daze of the Underground'' and ''In the Groove'', respectively. The Ned Brown Forest Preserve, popularly known as Busse Woods, adjoining Rolling Meadows, Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg in Illinois, is a unit of the Cook County Forest Preserve system. It is named after Edward "Ned" Eagle Brown. A section of the northeast quadrant of the forest preserve is the Busse Forest Nature Preserve, which was registered as a National Natural Landmark in February 1980, as a well preserved example of the lake-flatwoods habitat. The Steve Miller Band is an American rock music, rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 1966. The band is led by Steve Miller (musician), Steve Miller on guitar and lead vocals. The group had a string of mid- to late-1970s hit singles that are staples of classic rock radio, as well as several earlier psychedelic rock albums. Miller left his first band to move to San Francisco and form the Steve Miller Blues Band. Hawkwind are an English rock band known as one of the earliest space rock groups. Since their formation in November 1969, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and have incorporated many different styles into their music, including hard rock, progressive rock and psychedelic rock. They are regarded as an influential proto-punk band. Their lyrics often cover themes of urban life and science fiction. Acid King III
Richard Allan Kasso Jr. (March 29, 1967 – July 7, 1984), also known as the Acid King, was an American murderer who killed his friend, 17-year-old Gary Lauwers, in Northport, New York, on June 19, 1984. Two other teenagers, Jimmy Troiano and Albert Quiñones, were present at the murder, which took place in the Aztakea Woods of Northport; all four were under the influence of what they believed to be mescaline, but was most likely LSD.
