Achimota ( ), is a town in the Accra Metropolitan District, a district of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Achimota means "speak no name" in the Ga language. Achimota School
Achimota School (Help:IPA/English, /ɑːtʃimoʊtɑː/ ), formerly Prince of Wales College and School at Achimota, later Achimota College, now nicknamed Motown, is a co-educational boarding school located at Achimota in Accra, Greater Accra Region, Greater Accra, Ghana. The school was founded in 1924 by Sir Frederick Gordon Guggisberg, Dr. James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey and the Rev. Alexander (Alec) Garden Fraser, Rev. Alec Garden Fraser. Achimota Forest
Achimota Forest Reserve is a forest in Achimota in the Okaikwei North Municipality in the Greater Accra Region. It is located approximately from Accra. It is under protection against unauthorized usage such as poaching, construction of homes, hunting and shopping malls by individuals and groups. It is one of the green facilities in Accra assisting with control of carbon emissions. History The forest was gazetted in 1930 and had a total size of . Currently, the size of the forest reserve is about . This Forest Reserve was established to create a green buffer between the Accra City and the Achimota School. Achimota Transport Terminal
Achimota Transport Terminal was inaugurated in December, 2009, with the aim of reducing congestion on the Accra-Nsawam road. The terminal can accommodate 800 vehicles and includes other facilities such as a police station and a clinic. It was started by President Kufour but was inaugurated by the Mills administration. History The construction of the terminal was started in 2004, by President Kufour of the New Patriotic Party. The aim was to reduce congestion on the Accra-Nsawam road, which was particularly heavy between the Apenkwa Interchange and Achimota. The road is used as a major route connecting Accra to other Ghanaian cities such as Kumasi and Tamale, as well as carrying traffic to Burkina Faso and Mali. The project took around five years to finish and cost GH¢1.2 million. The terminal was officially opened on 17 December 2009. Ga Language
Ga is a Kwa language spoken in Ghana, in and around the capital Accra, by the Ga people. There are also some speakers in Togo, Benin and western Nigeria. It has a phonemic distinction between three vowel lengths. Classification Ga is a Kwa language, part of the Niger–Congo family.
