''Achchani'' (; ) is a 1978 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Karaikudi Narayanan, starring Muthuraman, Lakshmi and Ashokan. It is based on Narayanan's play of the same name. The film was released on 4 February 1978 and became a success. Plot Cast Production ''Achchani'' is based on the play of the same name. The play was previously filmed in Malayalam under the same name. Karaikudi Narayanan who wrote the play also directed the film adaptation making his directorial debut. Shobha made her debut with this film. Narayanan revealed despite wanting Jaishankar as the lead actor, he chose Muthuraman as per the producer's suggestion. The producer faced financial struggles during the shoot as he could not afford enough film rolls and money which led to the filming being stopped and getting restarted after six months. Yaragudipati Venkata Mahalakshmi (born 13 December 1952), known professionally as Lakshmi, is an Indian actress known for her works primarily in all 4 Southern Indian language film industries (distributing her acting career across all four languages almost equally). She has also acted in some Hindi cinema, Hindi films. She made her debut as actress with the 1968 Tamil film ''Jeevanaamsam''. She debuted in full-fledged lead role in the same year with the Kannada cinema, Kannada film ''Goa Dalli CID 999''. Gopishantha (26 May 1937 – 10 October 2015), better known by her stage name Manorama, also called Aachi, was an Indian actress, comedian and playback singer who had appeared in more than 1000 films and 5000 stage performances predominantly in the Tamil and also in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Sinhala. Mahalakshmi Menon, best known by her stagename Shobha (23 September 1962 – 1 May 1980), was an Indian actress best known for her work in Malayalam and Tamil films. At the age of 17, she won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the 1979 Tamil film ''Pasi''. Srikanth (actor, Born 1940)
Srikanth (19 March 1940 – 12 October 2021) was an Indian actor who has performed in around 200 Tamil films since his debut in 1965. He is also referred to as Vennira Aadai Srikanth. He has played the lead hero in around 50 films between 1965 and 1979 and has also played supporting roles in films with actors Sivaji Ganesan, Muthuraman, Ravichandran and Jaishankar in the lead roles. In the late seventies to early nineties, he appeared as a villain opposite actors including Sivakumar, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
