The Academia Guatemalteca de la Lengua (Spanish for ''Guatemalan Academy of the Language'') is an association of academics and experts on the use of the Spanish language in Guatemala. Guatemala
Guatemala, officially the Republic of Guatemala, is a country in Central America. Association Of Spanish Language Academies
The Association of Academies of the Spanish Language (; ASALE) is an entity whose end is to work for the unity, integrity, and growth of the Spanish language. It was created in Mexico in 1951 and represents the union of all the separate academies in the Spanish-speaking world. The association publishes reference works on the Spanish language and commemorative editions of Hispanic literature, among other publications. History Through the initiative of then-president of Mexico Miguel Alemán Valdés, the first congress of academies convened with the purpose of maintaining the integrity of and fostering the further growth of Spanish. The meeting was held from 23 April to 6 May 1951 and resulted in the creation of the association and its permanent commission. Margarita Carrera
Margarita Carrera Molina (16 September 1929 – 31 March 2018) was a Guatemalan philosopher, professor and writer. She was a member of the Academia Guatemalteca de la Lengua and the 1996 laureate of the Miguel Ángel Asturias National Prize in Literature. Early life Margarita Carrera Molina was born 16 September 1929 in Guatemala City to Frenchman Antonio Carrera Martello and Josefina Molina Llardén. Her father committed suicide when she was a child and she had to work to help support her family, going to night school to learn. She was the first female graduate in Literature from Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala in 1957. Career From 1957 she was employed as a university professor at her alma mater, as well as Rafael Landívar University and Universidad del Valle de Guatemala. Lucrecia Méndez
Lucrecia Méndez de Penedo (born 21 July 1943) is a Guatemalan university professor, essayist, researcher, and literary and art critic. She has been instrumental in rescuing some of Guatemala's literary heritage from obscurity. Biography Marta Lucrecia Méndez was born 21 July 1943. In 1979, she received a degree ''cum laude'' in Spanish Literature and letters from the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (University of San Carlos of Guatemala). In 1997, she earned her doctorate ''cum laude'' in Literature from the University of Siena in Italy. Both of her graduating theses were analyses of the work of Luis Cardoza y Aragón. She has been a professor at several Guatemalan universities, including her alma mater, San Carlos; the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala; and Universidad Francisco Marroquín, as well as teaching as a visiting professor in Italy, Spain and the United States.
