Abu Sayed (other)
Abu Sayed (; born – 16 July 2024) was a Bangladeshi student activist who was shot dead by the police on 16 July 2024, while participating in the 2024 quota reform movement. Sayed was a student of Begum Rokeya University and was involved in the protest in front of the university when the police engaged in lathi charges and opened fire on the students. Early life Abu Sayed grew up in Babanpur village of Pirganj Upazila of Rangpur (then part of Rajshahi Division). His father is Maqbul Hossain and his mother is Monowara Begum. He was the youngest of a family of six brothers and three sisters. He won a talent pool scholarship from the local Jafor Para Government Primary School in the fifth grade. Later, he passed SSC with a Golden GPA-5 from Khalashpir Bilateral High School. 2024 Bangladesh Quota Reform Movement
The 2024 Bangladesh quota reform movement was a series of anti-government and pro-democracy protests in Bangladesh, spearheaded primarily by Universities in Bangladesh, university students. Initially focused on restructuring Quota system of Bangladesh Civil Service, quota-based systems for government job recruitment, the movement expanded against what many perceived as an authoritarian government when they carried out the July massacre of protestors and civilians, most of whom were students. Started as a student movement, the movement later escalated into a fully-fledged mass uprising known as the July Revolution (Bangladesh), July Revolution. 1969 East Pakistan Mass Uprising
The 1969 East Pakistan mass uprising () was a democratic political uprising in East Pakistan. It was led by the students backed by various political parties such as the Awami League, National Awami Party, and Communist party of East Pakistan and their student wings, and the cultural fronts (writers, poets, musicians, singers, actors, etc) against Muhammad Ayub Khan, the president of Pakistan in protest of the oppressive military rule, political repressions, ''Agartala Conspiracy Case'' and the incarceration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other Bengali nationalists''.'' The uprising consisted of mass demonstrations and sporadic conflicts between government armed forces and the demonstrators. Mohammad Shamsuzzoha
Mohammad Shamsuzzoha (; 1 May 1934 – 18 February 1969) was a Bengali writer, professor and proctor at Rajshahi University. Shamsuzzoha was the first university teacher in erstwhile East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) who was killed by the Pakistani Military forces at the eve of 1969 revolution movement of East Pakistan, which ultimately became the Bangladesh Liberation War. In 2008, he was awarded the Independence Day Award. Early life He was born in Onda, Bankura in West Bengal, British India. After the partition of Bengal, he migrated to erstwhile East Bengal in 1950. He passed his matriculation exam in 1948 from Bankura Zilla School and passed ISc in 1950 from Bankura Christian College. He achieved BSc (honours) degree in chemistry in 1953 and MSc in 1954 from Dhaka University. 2018 Bangladesh Quota Reform Movement
The 2018 Bangladesh quota reform movement was a students' movement demanding reforms in policies regarding recruitment in the Bangladesh government services. Bangladesh Sadharon Chhatra Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad (Bangladesh General Students' Right Conservation Council) initiated movement initially began in Shahbag and on Dhaka University campus on 17 February 2018, and eventually spread country-wide by 8 April 2018. The movement rapidly attained popularity among students of different universities and colleges forcing the government to announce changes.
