Abraham Salkowitz
Abraham H. Salkowitz (known professionally as A.H. Salkowitz; November 17, 1908 – January 7, 1998) was an American architect, best known for his work throughout the New York metropolitan area – specifically in Queens in New York City, and in Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island. He is credited as being one of the key architectural figures in the suburbanization of Long Island. Biography and career Abraham Harold Salkowitz was born in the Bronx, New York, on November 17, 1908. He attended the Hebrew Technical Institute and the New York Building School, as well as City College of New York. Salkowitz also studied architecture at New York University, but he dropped out of the school before finishing his degree. He soon thereafter began working for a Queens architect, Joseph Unger, before opening his practice in 1936. Manoug Exerjian (August 20, 1892 or 1888 – November 5, 1974) was an Armenian-American architect, who came to Great Neck, New York, in 1923. Biography A native of Constantinople, he graduated from the Royal School of Architecture in Istanbul in 1914. He designed the North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York. He came to prominence after winning first prize, $750, in a competition for best design of a Broadway (Manhattan) block front. Glen Oaks, Queens
Glen Oaks is the easternmost neighborhood of the New York City borough of Queens. The neighborhood is part of Queens Community Board 13 and borders Nassau County to the east. Location Glen Oaks lies between Grand Central Parkway and Nassau County to the north, Union Turnpike to the south, the Queens/ Nassau border (Lakeville Road) to the east, and the Cross Island Parkway to the west.
