Aberdyfi
Aberdyfi (), also known as Aberdovey ( ), is a village and community in Gwynedd, Wales, located on the northern side of the estuary of the River Dyfi. The population of the community was 878 at the 2011 census. The electoral ward had a larger population of 1,282 and includes the community of Pennal. Founded by shipbuilding, Aberdyfi is now a seaside resort with a high quality beach. The centre is on the river and seafront, around the original harbour, jetty and beach; it stretches back from the coast and up the steep hillside in the midst of typical Welsh coastal scenery of steep green hills and sheep farms. Penhelig railway station () is in the eastern part of the village. Being less than from the West Midlands, the area is popular with tourists. 43.3% of houses in the village are holiday homes. Aberdyfi Castle
Aberdyfi Castle is a castle located near Glandyfi, Ceredigion, in Wales. All that now remains is the motte, which is referred to as ''Domen Las'' (traditionally meaning "blue mound" in Welsh). History Aberdyfi Castle was founded by the Lord Rhys, Rhys ap Gruffydd in 1156, shortly after he had become ruler of Deheubarth. Rhys had heard rumours that Owain Gwynedd was planning to invade Ceredigion in order to reclaim it for Gwynedd. Rhys responded by building a castle at Aberdyfi. However, the threatened invasion did not take place, and Turvey claims that Owain's intention may have been to test the resolve of the new ruler. Penhelig Railway Station
Penhelig railway station () serves the eastern outskirts of the seaside resort of Aberdyfi in Gwynedd, Wales. It was opened by the Great Western Railway in 1933. Its situation is unusual, being located on a short length of sharply curved single track between two tunnels. The station is an unstaffed halt on the Cambrian Coast Railway with passenger services to Tywyn, Barmouth, Harlech, Porthmadog, Pwllheli, Machynlleth and Shrewsbury. Trains stop on request. 2018 reconstruction Between 1 January and 30 March 2018, the station was closed as Network Rail replaced the previous timber platform with an improved structure coated with glass reinforced plastic. This is intended to reduce the need for maintenance work. Dwyfor Meirionnydd is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (at Westminster), represented since 2015 by Liz Saville Roberts of Plaid Cymru. Like its predecessors, it is a Plaid Cymru stronghold, with their candidate in 2024 achieving a majority of 39.3%. Snowdonia National Park
Snowdonia, or Eryri (), is a mountainous region and National parks of the United Kingdom, national park in North Wales. It contains all 15 mountains in Wales Welsh 3000s, over 3000 feet high, including the country's highest, Snowdon (), which is tall. These peaks are all part of the Snowdon Massif, Snowdon, Glyderau, and Carneddau ranges in the north of the region. The shorter Moelwynion and Moel Hebog ranges lie immediately to the south. River Dyfi
The River Dyfi (; ), also known as the River Dovey ( ), is an approximately long river in Wales. Its large estuary forms the boundary between the counties of Gwynedd and Ceredigion, and its lower reaches have historically been considered the border between North Wales and South Wales. Name Nowadays the Welsh spelling ''Dyfi'' is widely used locally and by the Welsh Government, Natural Resources Wales and the BBC. Glandyfi
Glandyfi (formerly anglicised as Glandovey) is a small hamlet in the county of Ceredigion in Wales on the A487 trunk road from Machynlleth to Aberystwyth . Glandyfi Castle was built in the Regency Gothic style in 1810 for George Jeffreys. The Jeffreys family remained in possession of the castle until 1906, when the estate was broken up and sold at auction. The castle itself was bought by Robert John Spurrell (elder son of Daniel Spurrell of Bessingham, Norfolk), who remained there until his death in 1929. It was later the home of Sir Bernard and Lady Docker, and until September 2019, operated as a bed and breakfast.
