Aberdeen Regent Park Greyhound Stadium
Aberdeen Regent Park was a greyhound racing stadium in Aberdeen. It is not to be confused with the Holburn Stadium. The stadium opened on 25 June 1932 near School Road in Aberdeen. The first race meeting featured thirty greyhounds in six races and attracted a crowd of 2,000. The Aberdeen Greyhound Racing Company held racing on a regular basis at Regent Park over 315 & 360 yards. Despite two meetings held on Saturdays there was already plans to build a larger track called the Holburn Stadium. The track had a betting licence during 1935 and 1936 but the company was dissolved in 1940. The stadium remained in place and was subsequently used as an athletics stadium known as the Chris Anderson Stadium. Holburn Stadium
Holburn Stadium, also known as Aberdeen Greyhound Stadium, was a greyhound racing stadium in Aberdeen, Scotland. It is not to be confused with the Aberdeen Regent Park Greyhound Stadium. History The stadium was located on the south west side of Aberdeen and on the north side of the Bridge of Dee. The owners Aberdeen Stadium Ltd affiliated the track to the National Greyhound Racing Society with the first racing taking place on 7 June 1933. On opening night proceedings were started by the pipes and drums and brass band of the 4th Battalion of the Gordon Highlanders and the opening speech was made by Col. A.H. Farquharson of Invercauld. An attendance of 5,000 saw a greyhound called Rimutaka win the first race at the new stadium. It was described as a handy little track with very sharp bends and short straights and not the ideal circuit for large greyhounds. Aberdeen Sports Village
Aberdeen Sports Village is a sports facility in Aberdeen, Scotland. History The present athletics track is situated on the site of the Aberdeen Regent Park Greyhound Stadium which later became the Linksfield Stadium and subsequently the Chris Anderson Stadium. The stadium was redeveloped as part of the Sports Village project. The first stage of the Village was opened on 22 August 2009, representing an investment of £28 million. In 2010, Aberdeen Sports Village hosted a training session of the Scottish Rugby Team. In 2012 Aberdeen Sports Village was an official pre-games training venue of the Cameroon Olympic Team prior to London 2012. Construction on the Aquatics Centre started in late 2011 and was completed in early 2014 following an investment of £22 million.
