Aben Wo Ha (song)
"Aben Wo Ha" is a single released by Ghanaian musician Daddy Lumba from his 1998 studio album of the same name. Controversy In 1999 there were numerous calls by critics and conservative music fans to ban "Aben Wo Ha" on radio, however, the National Commission on Culture which exercises authority over the music industry in Ghana, decided against banning it. Popularity It was alleged that presenter Tommy Annan Forson made the song popular when he refused to play it on radio due to its sexually suggestive lyrics. His decision made people curious about the song. The song was a commercial success. "Aben Wo Ha" won numerous of awards in 1999 and 2000, including winning the "Song of the Year" award at the maiden Ghana Music Awards held in 2000. "Aben Wo Ha" still enjoys some level of popularity, even internationally, despite more than two decades since its release. Daddy Lumba
Daddy Lumba (born 29 September 1964) is a Ghanaian singer-songwriter and musician. Lumba was born Charles Kwadwo Fosu in a village called Nsuta Amangoase in the Sekyere Central District, near Mampong in the Ashanti Region. He is widely regarded as the greatest Ghanaian musician of all time. His father, Owoahene Kwadwo Fosu, a teacher, died when Lumba was only a child. His mother, Comfort Gyamfi, popularly known as Ama Saah, was also a teacher. She died in 2001 in Kumasi. Her death was a devastating blow to Lumba as she was literally everything to him. Many of Daddy Lumba's songs, including "Anidasoɔ Wɔhɔ Ma Obiara", "Ohia Asɛm", "Ɛmmere Pa Bɛba", "Agya Bi Wua Agya Bi Tease", were dedicated to her. He is married with ten children. Tommy Annan Forson is a veteran Ghanaian Broadcaster also known as The King of Country Music and The God Father of Radio, Radio personality and Founder of Rabodef Radio Academy. He took up a career in radio after being inspired by a radio program on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in 1978. Highlife Songs
Highlife is a music genre that started in present-day Ghana in the 19th century, during its history as a colony of the British Empire and through its trade routes in coastal areas. It describes multiple local fusions of African metre and western jazz melodies. It uses the melodic and main rhythmic structures of traditional Akan music, Kpanlogo Music of the Ga people, but is typically played with Western instruments. Highlife is characterized by jazzy horns and multiple guitars which lead the band and its use of the two-finger plucking guitar style that is typical of African music. Recently it has acquired an uptempo, synth-driven sound. Highlife gained popularity in the genre "Native Blues" prior to World War II before production was shut down.
